Dandy, and the Yankees get to play them this week. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3510042
Stupid move if the Angels don't re-sign him in the offseason, because Kotchman is a good player and is younger than Teixeira.
Haha, the Braves just got schooled. They traded their three best prospects last year (Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Elvis Andrus, Matt Harrison), Neftali Feliz and Mark Texieria for Casey Kotchman and Stephen Marek (The Angels sixth best prospect)
They are this year if they stay healthy. They probably can't resign both Vlad and Texieria after this year though. That will put one or both of them up for grabs this winter. Oh wait, his contract isn't up until after '09 so maybe they can.
I think the Braves knew Tex was done after this year and you East Coast Guys don't get to see alot of Angels baseball but Kotch is a very good player. He hit nearly .300 last year. He has already passed last years HR total and is on pace to to pass last year's dbl total and hits and runs. Kotch is young and should be a fixture in the Atlanta lineup for years. Kotch is also a great fielder who could be a gold glover one day. I believe Marek is a relief pitcher who has lots of upside. The Angels have done extremely well drafting and developing players so Marek should be a good pitcher Atlanta may have given up the big bat but they certainly did not get ripped off in this deal.
Yeah but if they don't they'll gettwo outstanding draft picks out of the deal and judging by their track record that should not be overlooked. 4/5's of their rotation were either drafted or signed as amatuer FA's by the Angels Shields, K Rod and Arredondo where drafted or signed Now look at this.... C: Napoli/Mathis both drafted by Angels 1B: Kotch drafted by Angels 2B: Kendrick drafted by Angels SS: Aybar drafted by Angels 3B: Figgins traded for as a minor leaguer (he never hit higher than .278 in minors with Rockies and was hitting .220 when traded but never hit under .300 in Angels minor league system, was playing in majors less than 2 years after being traded) LF: Garrett Anderson drafted by Angels OF: Reggie Willits drafted by Angels They still have Wood and Adenhart in the minors who are the #1 and #2 prospects in their system and Kendry Morales has been hurt most of the year. I'd make the arguement that they are the best at developing homegrown talent
This Angels/Braves deal could be as even as hell, it still doesn't refute that they gave up 4 highly talented players just to get Texieria.
Ahhh yes that is correct, thanks I had to re-read that. The Braves gave up their best prospect in Salty to get Tex and less than a year later they tarde Tex.
