Here's a little list of who is favorite to wind up with Teddy Bridgewater, assuming he comes out in 2014, and why. 1. Jacksonville. They suck. Legitimate shot at 1-15 without doing anything else to tank. 2. St. Louis. They're probably not bad enough to get the pick on their own merit but they also own Washington's 2014 1st round pick. That gives them two chances to get the pick outright and good possibilities to trade up for it in the Clowney - Bridgewater confusion. 3. Cleveland. In Tank for Teddy mode already and nowhere near the end of that process. The FO better figure out who played well against the Vikings and trade them fast if they're serious about getting a top 2 pick. 4. Minnesota. The loss to Cleveland was one big hurdle for them in getting the 1st overall pick. Still have the Giants and Washington on the schedule. 5. NY Giants. Yeah it's a Coughlin coached team and you know they won't surrender any time soon but they're 0-3 and they've allowed 115 points already against 3 good teams. How much would it suck to see Bridgewater sitting and getting groomed behind 33 year old Eli Manning next season?
Yeah, I actually thought of this yesterday.... with our luck it'll happen. Although the JAGS are pretty awful. Teddy is as good as theirs, and he'll have some good young receivers to work with. Blackmon returning could be the X-factor in ruining their offensive incompetence though.
Jacksonville is bad enough to not win a game. I can't see any scenario in which they are not the worst team in the league.
It's going to be hard for the Jaguars to win 3 games this year and that makes them a huge favorite to be picking in the top 2.
yeah, I see another 2-14 season. For their sake, I hope that's bad enough :grin: I have alot of friends that are JAGS fans, many that are season ticket holders. I talked to my 1 good friend the other night watching the TNF game at the bar, and he said "I knew they'd be bad this year, but I never imagined they could be THIS bad." Then he mentioned Blackmon returning, opening up things for Cecil Shorts, MJD, yada yada...... I told him they're better off going 1-15 and getting Bridgewater. At least then the Teboners will go away for good. :grin:
Week 5 update: 1. Jacksonville. Ahead by a mile at this point. I'd make the odds about 70/30 on the Jaguars against the field. All the other 0-4 teams are likely to win at least 3 games this year and that number is out of reach for the Jags. 2. St Louis. Rams have played a tough schedule so far. The game of the year for them is on Sunday. If they don't dig down deep and find some way to lose to the Jaguars they are probably drafting #2 at best next spring. The extra pick from the Skins isn't going to mean anything if the Jaguars are the team on the 1. In that case Sam Bradford meet Jadaveon Clowney. 3. Giants. Yeah, it seems unlikely but the Giants have been putrid on both sides of the ball this season. We might well be seeing the end of the Manning/Coughlin era in NY. I think if I was in the Giants management suite I'd offer Coughlin an emeritus position in the front office and go find a hard driving young coach to take over next year. 4. Oakland. Tough schedule for the rest of the year and Terrelle Pryor has already had one concussion this season. It's easy to see things falling apart for them at this point. Matt Flynn is not a good QB to take over on a bad team. 5. Cleveland. Fading fast here with back to back wins. They won't win more than 5 games but they're looking like that number is manageable at this point. Tracking near the bottom of the poll: Steelers and Vikings. If the Vikings lose next week against the Jaguars at home they are going to be #3 on the list at worst. Steelers have a bye and then get the Jets at Metlife. If they lose that game after the bye they will hit the list as well if I have to pry the #5 team off with a chisel.
Giants will win 5 to 7 games imo. Heck, their division is bad, they might make the playoffs with 7 wins just like Seattle did a few years ago.
They do have a nice crunchy part of the schedule coming up at this point. If they don't win 3 out of the next 5 they're in some real trouble though.
Could a team take Tajh Boyd over Jadaveon Clowney without their fans rioting? I suppose the Jags could trade down some if they had the 2 and Bridgewater went on the 1. It's hard to trade away from Clowney though. Even with the injury issue he looks like Lawrence Taylor/Bruce Smith territory.
yeah, in that scenario the only way that happens is if someone offers a mega-trade deal with multiple 1st rd / day 1 picks.....
What do you think about the possibility (or is it a trend?) of bad teams starting to trade pieces mid season in order to stockpile picks (and possibly tank the season)?
I hate teams that tank in any sport, its a disgrace to the fans of the team who pay to watch that shit. League should severely punish any team who is clearly trying to tank.
Some thoughts on each team: 1. Jacksonville. They need him. Badly. 2. St Louis. I really don't think Bradford is a bad QB, I think he's had some bad luck, and he's now playinig through the shotty curse. I think the Rams are good enough to finish ahead of Jacksonville. I wonder if they regret not drafting RG3 and trying to move Bradford? 3. Giants. I never thought of them, and I found your writeup about them really interesting. The Giants do seem to think long term, and why not? On the other hand, they could trade from the 1 to the 2 if Jacksonville wants the #1, and pick up Clowney to pair with Jason Pierre Paul. That said, I think the Giants are going to finish a lot better than they've started. They've lost to two 4-0 teams, a Panthers team that has played well all season, and the Cowboys who are 2-2. 4. Oakland. A logical land spot, Oakland needs a lot of things. I'm not sure Pryor is the long term answer at QB, but he sure is fun to watch. 5. Cleveland. I think they're going to win too many games. They're 3rd in defense as is, and the offense looks better with Hoyer on the field. I thought they were solidly in tank mode, but if they get production from their offense and the defense keeps playing this well they're going to surprise people.
Jacksonville needs more than a QB. If they can get an extra first rounder and future picks like the Redskins gave up for RG3, I say they should jump all over it. With a QB heavy draft they could still get a good QB in the 2nd.
That's a good point, though a decision worth strong evaluation, considering their QB history. They've already got an excellent WR in Justin Blacmon, just need someone to throw to him now. They'll probably need to also get a RB2 who is heir apparent to MJD.
