i'm hurting after this game, but there is some perspective that needs to be put into this game. the lions have the best defense in the NFL and in my opinion are a top 7 team. i understand the best offensive weapon in the game was injured, but this team still has weapons. tate, ebron, bush, broyles, stafford, bell, and pettigrew are all great weapons and players. anyways, this is what i took away from the game. 1.) geno is really becoming an enigma for me. he does look better than last, anyone that doesn't agree with that is kidding themselves. he has better mechanics, knows the playbook, and takes risks, which i like. a lot of QBs don't make mistakes, but they also check down every play and it's tough to win a game like that. with that being said, he has to stop with turning the ball over. i'm not going to blame this ALL on geno because he got ROCKED on his interception. i feel like that happens a lot with geno on his INTs, he gets hit and throws it. his fumble was a close call, it happens. for the most part his INTs have happened when pressure is right up in his face. 2.) i want to know why geno has stopped running the ball. like it's completely gone now for the most part. he was such a threat when he could run and the offense was better when he ran. i remember one play where he had the space to run for 15 yards and just checked it down. 3.) i dont know what goes through marty's head for the most part. i understand you can't run ivory into the ground, but the first drive worked so well. ivory is an amazing back when it comes to running the ball and we need to give it to him often, not just early. he can't catch well though as he had some drops, but we needed to run him more. 4.) the wide receivers minus decker and salas were non existent. david nelson should be benched for salas as salas has more speed and upside. kerley was the main target for the defense and they took him out of the game. decker had some drops, but still had a nice touchdown. amaro played well too, he's a warrior. can't wait to see what he becomes in the future. 5.) this defense is really good. before the week they lead the league in sacks and i wouldn't be surprised if that ranking still stands. we have the best rush defense in the NFL and our pass defense isn't as bad as people think. i haven't heard kyle wilson's name that much. we've played well against some really good offenses. i was surprised to see trevor reilley in on some plays and it's unfortunate that pryor got hurt. hopefully dee comes back next week. 6.) people that want vick i don't think fully get it. we are developing geno in which will probably be the toughest stretch of his career. he threw for 200 yards 1 td, and 1 int. the fumble was fluky and the interception (which was awful) happened because the offensive line allowed him to get rocked almost instantly. he's still completing around 65% of his passes. i'm not willing to give up on him yet, and definitely not after this game where they faced the #1 ranked defense in the NFL. side note: i don't like making excuses, i really don't, but i've never been more disgusted with the NFL. the opening part of this schedule is the most brutal i've ever seen. we are having 4 HoF quarterbacks (rivers, manning, rodgers, and brady) and 2 pro bowl caliber QBs (stafford and cutler) all in a row. our moral will be absolutely destroyed, which is a lot more important than people think. we are facing some of the BEST TEAMS in the NFL and playing them all pretty close. it's unfortunate that we don't have that "gimme" game that could boost the confidence of this team. this schedule is really bad
Smith's ability to run opens up passing lanes for him. They need to incorporate that. And he needs to stop being so half assed with the running as well. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
I won't argue with any of that, but collectively we suck. That falls on the coaching. We are worse than the sum of our parts.
I agree with most of this, it seems like MM's over thinking and its hurting the offense as whole, which sucks because it can't move forward with much room for error. He's been the biggest hindrance for the Jets O, more than Geno, more than the teams weapons, he has a good set of plays, but his scheme and execution on the field have been abysmal. You could make a good argument that HE has been the MOST responsible for every loss so far, its really just a matter of Marty Mornhinweg getting out of the way of Marty Mornhinweg. I hadn't even realized how little Geno was running till you mentioned it, yeah what is with that? he was finding a groove while doing so, why isn't he doing that more? he's… better than last year in certain ways, but then he has those spine crushing moments, like that bad overthrow today. You can tell, everything is starting to mount on him, he has so much to fight, he needs whatever he can get to help him out and bring him over the edge. Amaro needs to be used more too, he's had his rookie struggles, but he's clearly a weapon worth using, if only to open up Decker and JK.
WF is there to take away. We had Decker, ran the ball more and we still lost. The teams we play in the next three weeks are better than the last three! Give me a fing break.
So were terrified of the chargers and steelers? I get denver, but seriously, is anyone watching any of these teams. Seattle handed San Diego that game by playing so conservative. And they beat buffalo who is not very good at all. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
have you seen our cornerbacks - anyone with a QB should terrify this team just watched the postgame conference - so tired of hearing the same tired excuses over and over again
Take away blown coverage and poor tackling we have not really been torched by wide recievers. Its been greatly exaggerated Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
this is a bad team. thats it. we turn it over because we are not good enough commit penalties because we are not good enough don't make stops at key moments in the game because we are not good enough the only thing to discuss is who will be good enough and who needs to be replaced.
My 2 biggest takeaways. 1 good 1 bad. 1. Amaro is the real deal. Rookie TE's don't ever look this good. Ever. With more reps and playing time he is going to be a beast for us for a long time. 2. The coaching staff clearly told Geno to stop running the football. That pass across the field to Amaro is all I need to know. They have him all fucked in the head now and he is making even more bad choices then he normally would anyways because of it.
interesting....... as far as smith - he does look better as an NFL QB but what that is mostly telling me is that he was really really bad last year. as far as the D - i love the D sacks as much as the next guy but this is a good defense and only at times a very good defense. i do not think its consistently very good. there are too many times when we really need a stop - it doesnt happen.
Amaro needs to become more involved in the offense....As does Salas....... The lone thing that could be good about Nelson going down is Salas wil get more reps......
lI think as an OC, MM has what we used to call "ants in his pants." He can never settle into anything even if it is comfortable. I think Vick will fail. He always does. And he is as inaccurate as Geno if not more so.
Did you read what you just posted? Take away a blown coverage and poor tackling and we haven't been torched? Dude, that's the very definition of torched. Our secondary is getting their asses kicked most because they're either playing out of position or simply lack the talent to match up with elite talent. We can't play Oakland every week. We haven't even played Buffalo yet but I have a feeling even that game will be a death match. I don't blame AA. He's a safety, not a CB but he's being asked to substitute for the "Best DB in the NFL". For the love of God, take off those green glasses, put the koolaide down for a day or two and take a cold hard look at this team in its current makeup. We're not as good as we'd like to think we are. Actually, to quote Parcells:" We are what our record says we are.." A 1-3 team going nowhere in 2014. The arrow is NOT trending up ok? Reality sucks.
the arrow is definitely trending up, it's a young team. we aren't as good as we thought we'd be this season, but that doesn't mean we are trending down. most people said when idzik was hired that it would be a 2-3 year rebuild and that is what it is looking like. shaq evans got hurt, mcdougle got hurt, pryor and amaro will be impactful in the future. our offensive line depth is slowing developing and we have an extremely talented and young front 4. geno may or may not be the answer, but the arrow is still slowly ticking up.
