Date: May 6, 2006 Vinny Testeverde quarterbacked the Browns from 1993-95. Could a return be in the offing? Here's a report from today's Cleveland Browns rookie mini-camp in Berea. Don't be surprised if some morning during training camp you experience a little d?j? vu - Vinny Testaverde throwing passes while wearing a Browns uniform. Testaverde, 42, played for the Browns from 1993-95. Testaverde's name came up in the press conference with Romeo Crennel Saturday during a discussion about veteran quarterbacks. The ones that are available - Jeff Blake, Tony Banks, Shane Matthews, Tommy Maddox and Jay Fiedler - are of no interest to the Browns, or, it seems, to any other NFL team. Testaverde's first year was 1987 with Tampa Bay. He played with the Bucs, Browns, Jets and Cowboys. After the 2004 season Testaverde hung up his helmet, but the Jets had so many injuries in 2005 that when Coach Herman Edwards called, Testaverde jumped to the rescue. Testaverde played in six games last season and retired again. He threw one touchdown pass and six interceptions, but the one TD put him in the record books as the only quarterback in NFL history to throw at least one touchdown toss in 19 consecutive seasons. Testaverde was at his best with the Jets under Parcells from 1998-2001. Browns head coach Romeo Crennel was a Jets assistant in the same era. Crennel speaks highly of Testaverde. "I think Vinny is a great leader," Crennel said. "He's a student of the game. He studies the offense. He executes the plan. He tries to help young quarterbacks. I think Vinny would be good in that role." Asked if there is a chance Testaverde could play for the Browns more than a decade after he was here before, Crennel smiled and said: "There's always a chance. Whether he will or not, I'm not sure. That's something I have in the back of my mind, but it's not something I'm looking into." Testaverde was the quarterback when the Browns beat New England 20-13 in a playoff game on Jan. 1, 1995 in a wildcard game. Testaverde completed 20 of 30 passes for 268 yards and one touchdown. He did not throw an interception. Ken Dorsey, obtained along with a seventh round draft choice from the 49ers for Trent Dilfer, will join the Browns Monday. Crennel said he wants see how Dorsey looks. If Dorsey throws well he will not go after another quarterback.
Please just retire, you were my first Jet Hero, I don't want you to be a poor man's Jerry Rice or Emmitt Smith.
Vinny Testaverde is the greatest person to ever walk the face of the earth. go to the browns and get your SB VT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That Vinny Testaverde doesn't know when to say goodbye and save himself further embarassment is NOT breaking news.
fuck charlie frye. if Vinny does decide to come back, he'll unseat frye by the time mini camps start.
i think we should make live sacrifices to Vinny Testaverde so that way when the Jets play the Browns he doesnt completely humiliate us!!
BAAHAHAHAHA!! You know why he's here, don't you? The Vinnytestaverde16 website was hacked, and they haven't been able to work their board for the last two weeks. Just as well. I was the only one who posted common sense on that board, and they kept deleting my stuff within minutes of posting.
Vinny Testaverde balks at retiring as a Jet for a second time except this time I can't even respect the decision. He's not even coming back to a starting job. He'll be lucky to make the team. But I still love Vinny Vidi Vici. =[
"Poor Man's" is even streching it. He's the homeless guy who smells like piss and wears his underwear on the outside's Jerry Rice/Emmit Smith.
