Honestly it never comes down to just one player on offense or defense or Sp etc... But this guy as a returner isn't cutting it for me.... Yes he is catching the ball and not fumbling thus far. But he is not the returner that we thought him to be or can be IMO... He doesn't get nothing after he fields the punt which kills us too, because if you could just say even cut half the punt.. Or lets just say realistically he gets about 15-20 yards after the catch then we just got ourselves 2 first downs when you look at it in that sense. I don't know who we have else that we could try but we need more of a return so we could get the offense of the field with momentum... If they punt the ball and it hits our 10 20 or 30 and you dont get but 2-5 yards then that does us nothing at all.. Any Ideas of who you would like to see return some punts? I know we will say LEON but he has enough duties for now...
Imagine if the we had Reggie Bush returning punts. how good would this team be? or maybe Phillip Rivers as a return man.
He's an average punt returner (6th in the AFC, 12th in the NFL), but he does fair catch a lot. Lechler is probably the best punter in the NFL, so I wouldn't expect too much this week in any event.
Punt Returns 1. Jacoby Jones ? HOU 20 2. Quan Cosby ? CIN 17 Josh Cribbs ? CLE 17 4. Bobby Wade ? KAN 15 5. Jim Leonhard ? NYJ 13 Eddie Royal ? DEN 13 Clifton Smith ? TAM 13 8. Reggie Bush ? NOR 12 Justin Forsett ? SEA 12 Stefan Logan ? PIT 12 Roscoe Parrish ? BUF 12 Leonhard is 5th in the league. Lets cut the bum
sometimes those booming kicks arent that great because it gives the returner some room to get up to full speed
Josh Cribbs, arguably the best punt returner in the NFL averages 16.8 per return. Leonard is an average return guy, he doesn't need to be replaced
am I wrong---? I think Lowery can return punts---we all know Leon can but did'nt Lowery do it in College? I thought he did it last preseason as well? any thoughts
This is just a list by the number of punts returned, which says absolutely nothing about how well he does it. As I said above, he's 12th in the league in return average, but his fair catch average is also high.
Lechler leads the league in net return average at 44.1 yards per kick, more than 2 yards per kick more than anyone else. As an example, he kicks it 10 yards farther than Weatherford does, yet returners average a yard less on their returns.
Seriously, are you OK? Do u seriously think that if a punt returner can't average 15-20 yards, then he is terrible? There is only ONE player in the NFL that is averaging 15 or more (Cribbs), and only 9 players in the entire NFL that average 10 or above. Jim Leonard is averaging 8.9 yards a punt return. That is decent. Not great though, but still decent. You will never find a punt returner that will cut a punt in half. And when the opposing team punts inside the 20, its hard to get a return since the coverage unit usually has less than 45 yards to travel. This thread is a joke.
some punts are 30 to 40 yards on average so what does cutting them in half equal?? im not good at math but neither are you
This board is funny at times... You cant even make a thread without being attacked. You got pretend to be thugs talking mess over a computer. LOL anyhow like i said i didn't the thread existed already
