That it wasn't a spectacular draft.

Actually this was his first draft, that was his first draft with NE, I dont see the point for comparison that your making, but figure if your gonna post his first draft may as well do the right one

    1 (2, 2) - Eric Turner, UCLA
    2 (2, 29) - Ed King, Auburn
    3 (2, 57) - James Jones, Northern Iowa
    4 (2, 85) - Pio Sagapulutele, San Diego State
    6 (2, 141) - Michael Jackson, Southern Mississippi
    8 (2, 197) - Frank Conover, Syracuse
    9 (2, 225) - Raymond Irvin, Central Florida
    9 (16, 239) - Shawn Wiggins, Wyoming
    10 (2, 252) - Brian Greenfield, Pittsburgh
    11 (2, 280) - Todd Jones, Henderson State
    12 (2, 308) - Elijah Austin, North Carolina State

maybe setting the stage is more important than drafting high profile players

Sorry, meant to put the description on the bottom. Point is not to stress over these late round picks as much as everyone is doing. I don't know where these guys were projected but at the time they could've been considered great value picks. But none of them panned out and there were players taken during that time that became better players and may have been considered reaches. Can't judge a draft the day of.

Michael Jackson had all the moves but those character issues just killed his career. That was a boom-or-bust pick.

So? Did we fire our guy and hire theirs? This Bellichik comparison crap NEEDS to end. Until our Mangini wins us 3 out of 4 I think we need to stop comparing.

Here I was thinking Eric Mangini was our Head Coach. When did Belicheck come back to the Jets?

So your point is that if we get lucky Clemens can be good but other than that we may as well not bother drafting after the 2nd round?

I usually don't complain about threads but this thread really is pointless, and borderline retarded. I'm going to need a beer now.

All that tells me is that like bill, eric and T will have to screw up the 1st draft in order to make the 2nd draft look better.

No offense but just because BB did it doesn't mean it's a good idea. How many of those guys actually helped their team would be a bigger question? If you look at late round picks who contributed then TB actually did a pretty good job of that. Almost everyone contributed on STs (some very well), and almost all saw time on the field their first seasons.

As we have discussed in another thread, my questions are a) whether or not there were other players who fit bigger needs or even the same need better that we could've gotten? and b) could we have picked up someone else and then still gotten the same guy later?

As you pointed out there are times though when no matter if a guy was a "reach" he can turn out to be a smart pick in hindsight. Unfortunately, most people are too impatient to wait and see and when some do they then use hindsight to turn things around and call a player a bust if they haven't lived up to their potential.

God, I hope not. What happened to hiring a person for what THEY bring? My uncle is a master carpenter but I'm not getting hired to build White House closets. Come on.

Might convenient you stopped at pick 187..... Bellichek's next pick in that draft was Tom Brady.
