Baldy's breakdown https://www.newyorkjets.com/video/baldy-s-breakdown-jets-defense-s-big-plays-vs-the-giants Defensive front 7 is young, Bashum, Jenkins, Fatucasi, Shepherd, Williams, Philips, Anderson, & led by veteran McClendon. They're the best run stopping per run, & 2nd best yards per game unit in NFL ...Big Cat, who is he. The linebackers have been hit hard by injury but are playing well. I also like how Williams is using Adams. Could you imagine this front seven with Williamson & Mosley.
and he missed 2 games so it's only in 7 games. i'm really impressed with the d-line. it's funny we spent a top 3 and top 6 pick on the d-line in the past 5 years and 1 is traded and 1 hasn't impressed yet but we have a 6th rounder, a 3rd rounder, and an UDFA all looking great. foley seems like a steal in the 6th and shepard is finally paying off
This is more proof that you don't need to spend high draft picks on interior DL. Imagine if our last GM used the 3rd overall pick on Allen, who would've given the D the stud edge rusher it's lacked for almost a decade and a half.
From D Robertson, to Leo and now Q, that's a shit load of premium draft capital spent/wasted with very little return...
This is what keeps blowing my mind. If we hadn't used all these premium picks on the DL the last multiple years theoretically our line would be just as good as it is now, and god only knows how much better everything else could be. Theoretically at least. But still.... pretty maddening.
I just think it is crazy how much better the DL and defense looks WITHOUT, Leo. Is it just me? I swear they look light years better without.
I get this take, but you've got to take in to account that this was against the Fins, who are incredibly poor, and a Giants team, who aren't great either, were missing two starters and had another go down before the half. Those lines are on a par with the Jets own one. I'd like to see them do the same against someone half decent before really saying they look better. It's promising and a good start though.
Bingo. When we collapse the Pocket against NE or another good Offense then we can talk. Yes, they deserve all the credit rn but if they end up stinking up vs Washington who hasn't scored a TD since the Reagan era then back to sq 1. They should dominate this week and continue to improve for the rest of the season. Jenkins is a monster on how he handles the edge.
Exciting to see the DL consisting largely of mid/low-round or undrafted players playing at such a high level. All they need is another pass rusher opposite Jenkins (nice year he's having) and this group should be set.
We gotta crawl before we can walk. I hear you, but in general in this league, you have to beat the bad teams, and go .500 against the good teams to get into the playoffs. We have some tests coming up that will be a good barometer for the run defense including #1 ranked run offense in the Ravens.
I'm going to be acutely interested in how Shepard makes out the next few games. When he got suspended a lot of posters on here were already referring to him in past tense and I figured he'd never even get another chance. I have to say that while admittedly I'm a bit of a softy and a sap I kind of felt bad for the guy trying to stay in the league and get a few game checks for his family despite all the injuries he had. It'd really be a nice phoenix rising from the ashes story if he goes on to be a contributing player for the Jets for the next few seasons. If he does anything close to what he did against the Giants now and then I suspect the Jets will be more than happy to keep giving him game checks for quite awhile.
geez the D-line virus that has affected the jets has been around for decades starting in 1974 with carl barzilauskas. LOL
Yep. That and a couple of CBs and the Jets defense as a whole can go from bottom half to top ten as soon as next year......
