There is as much proof of this as there is that Holmes "quit" on the team, so I don't want to hear it... Holmes and Sanchez exchanged heated words at a meeting on Wednesday...Holmes failed to show up for some optional meeting Sanchez scheduled on Thursday...Holmes, our BEST receiver, gets targeted only once during a must-win game in Miami. Santonio quit on the team, was immature and irresponsible... but not Mark?
Yeah we cannot jump to that conclusion since Plax didn't get many targets either. We don't know what the gameplan was or what the strategy was. It didn't help that the last couple game Santonio has been making negative plays also.
That's a pretty hard case to make without the all 22 game tape and plus, it's not uncommon for NFL QBs to miss seeing wide open receivers, esp. when they are worried about getting hit.
the Steelers basically kicked Holmes out the door,it was like when you have a old car that looks like shit but has "low miles"you throw a $1000 dollar or best offer sign on the window.Thats what Holmes is like,he cause problems for the Steelers and they didn't put up with it,he was suspended the first 4 games of last year.He had a good year last year he was one mistake away from being kicked out of the league, now he got his big contract and could care less about winning or playing for the team,CANCER in its highest form has been started on the Jets and if we don't get another big time LEADER wr we are in trouble this won't be the end of it this year. This will go on for as long as the Jets let it go on.He isn't gonna be that guy we had last year again.Look at Chris Johnson when he got paid. All of a sudden Holmes thinks he's to special and we made him feel that way.
We need a real NUMBER ONE reciver on this team to make Holmes try harder. He needs to be showed up on the field
"One source said Cotchery was desperate to get out because he couldn’t bear the thought of sitting in the receivers meeting room. He forced the Jets to release him and took a $940,000 pay cut down to $860,000 to play for the Steelers. Cotchery was an irreplaceable leader." You can't start a thread like this without a single scrap of evidence to support your claim. Where's the beef?
This is a knee jerk reaction post. Sanchez may indeed hold a grudge with Holmes, but know one knows this for sure. You can't claim he held out on giving Holmes the ball. The only thing we do know is Holmes has argued with Sanchez, missed an "optional" meeting, and argued with a teammate (Hunter?) in the huddle. None of those things should be happening at this point in the season. Everyone on that team was frustrated with the way the season was ending. Holmes was the guy that didn't handle it properly on and off the field. Is he the reason for the collapse? Not IMO. Sanchez and his poor play and the play calling are the biggest reasons for that.
I just dont' know how you pay a guy 50 million dollars and then don't make him the focal point of the offense and force the ball in his hands a certain amount of times per game... And then I don't know how you expect a known malcontent to be happy and not make a big deal out of getting targeted as if he were some walk on player on an offene that can't get out of it's own way, making mistakes, penalties and getting teh QB crushed.... Ealy in the year Holmes said "it all starts up front the OL needs to buy Mark more time" AND THAT WAS WRONG TO SAY!!!!?????????????????????????????? The Ol took that personally, the media blew is up and Away we went................. Meanwhile Football Offense 101 is that "it all starts Up front" So Tone said something that every Tom Dick and Harry wasn't saying??????? Jeez, grow some balls Hunter, Slausson and Moore - YOU GUYS SUCKED and without mangold you guys were like a His OL. FACT.
I doubt Sanchez targeted Holmes no more than any other covered wide receiver. I'm afraid we made a huge mistake with Holmes and let go Edwards and Kotch. Holmes is the common denominator when it comes to trouble and malcontent. He does nothing to bring team unity and everything to fracture the team spirit. Talented or not, he needs to go elsewhere. He is no diferrent than Randy Moss with half the talent.
This thread is sorta dumb because Holmes was dogging it all damn game and most of the season if ya ask me. He wasn't open at all on Sunday from what I saw. He wasn't even integrated in the gameplan, and once again, who does that fall on? The OC!
This post is on the money. Everyone knew where the weakness was, and there was no remedy sought. Although, I thought Slauson was solid this year. A tremendous improvement from his first year on the line. Holmes brought it to light to the world, in a sense. He should have kept it in house first. When the media starts the issue it is easier to take as criticism as to when a teammate criticizes you.
Holmes has become a big excuse for other players not doing their jobs this season. You don't want to get called out? Then do your job and no one will call you out. To have an epiphany during the Dolphins game that the season is over if you don't win is a little late, actually a lot late. Never in the games I watched did I see Holmes cause others to perform poorly, that was on each individual. Did these guys watch game tape of themselves and think that losing individual battles was acceptable?
Assuming he stayed (and thus Mason wasn't here and Kerley got less snaps) I'm sure he would have had more than the 16 catches he had for Pitts this year.
I love how there are tons of emotional based wild assumptions as threads here. Yeah, lets assume Sanchez didn't throw to him out of spite. Maybe its just me, but I didn't see him get open the entire game. I could be wrong, because they don't show his footage every play, but I highly doubt Sanchez saw a wide open Santonio and ignored him. The problem is clearly Schottenheimer. Hi Schotty! This is undoubtedly why Schotty sucks. He should be designing tons of plays for Holmes. Schotty makes the gameplan and the play calls, he is responsible. He was the one who benched Holmes. I don't necessarily think Santonio was wrong in calling out the offensive line. He was right, he just could have used better form, but if the coaching staff doesn't notice then we've got really big problems.
No there isn't. Multiple players have suggested that Santonio was dogging it and his behavior was unacceptable. LT flat out said it. No one said anything about Sanchez being spiteful. You just made that up because you don't like him. And for the record, I'm more than a little sympathetic towards Holmes in this case. I think he's criminally underused in this offense. Guy has game-breaking talent, we've all seen it here and in Pittsburgh and we don't know how to use it. Causes frustration, which he apparently doesn't handle well. Doesn't deserve the "C", but he deserves a better role in the offense.
