I remember when Geno was drafted, there were so many people saying Jets wouldn't hesitate to move off a 2nd round QB if he doesn't produce. However, I really don't see how Geno could possibly have more job security if he had put up the same performances as a top or middle first rounder. As soon as he was drafted, he was expected to compete for the starting job. His second year in the league, a vet QB is brought in to be his backup QB. His third year in the league, another vet QB is brought in to be his backup. Or at least that's how I interpret Gailey's comments. What I'm really wondering now is how badly does Geno have to stink to not be the starting QB next year? If Geno finished the season with 14 TD & 20 INT, I am actually thinking this team will list him as the #1 QB next year also.

Obviously I want Geno to succeed because I'm rooting for the Jets. At the same time, I am getting really annoyed at how he's been gifted the started role every year. Then next year offseason, we've gotta hear how you can't judge a QB until his 4th year in the league because that's when his game "comes together".

At least Geno can stay on the field. Milliner is expendable due to the depth we have at the position. Qb on the other hand does not have depth. We spent 12.6 mil on milliner and got squat in return. Geno got 3 million with a cheap base salary. Don't think Mac wants to pay a guy who sits the bench and can't stay healthy.

I believe every position should be open for competition, and seeing Geno given, yes given the job three straight years pisses me off. He was a second round pick with lots of question marks and he has yet to have to compete. He is the worst starting QB in the league and has been the past two seasons yet he must live a charmed life. To say a high 1st round pick like Milliner has to prove himself, yet a later pick who has done nothing does not is just crazy. I did not like when they hired CG as our OC and so far he has not proved me wrong. NO one names a starting QB in May unless he is a 1st round pick, just traded for, or just signed to a new contract. Geno is none of the above and stupid as a rock.

I think Geno should be in a competition as much as anyone but the faux outrage is silly. You can't ignore the glaring differences between the two positions especially when putting our roster into context.

    c'mon man

I think geno should be in competition for a Job at McDonald's... Forget the NFL, this dude dosent even know what the line of scrimmage is...maybe ROC nation can get him a B-list spot on a vh1 reality show

Is thread serious? Neither Dee nor Geno should have to complete for a roster spot. The Geno hate is hilarious. The #1 qb job discussion is completely different than a roster spot and you along with others have voiced that in another thread so no reason to hijack another one with the same BS.

Milliner's spot is not in jeperody. What are they suppose to say no "he's so great he's guaranteed a spot?" Unlike Geno since that's who we're using as a comparison he has a future hall of famer and 2 other pretty good players ahead of him. Can't baby him anymore he's going to make the team but he's coming off a bad rookie year (good ending) and a horrible injury. He may need the motivation especially after going from #1 to #4.

Well, apparently Bowles and Chan watched enough tape of Geno from his first 2 seasons in the league, and saw enough bright spots to be convinced he's their guy. And Jon Gruden, widely considered one of the top minds in the NFL today, was raving about the progress Geno has made in a week 3 Monday Night game last season. Overall, all biases aside, Geno Smith played pretty well last year, given the circumstances.

So I'll go with what NFL coaches have to say over what a bunch of armchair bulletin board fans say, no offense to anyone here.

Where was the outrage over Geno, being handed the starting job, as Idzik shipped a playoff winning QB out of town...when It was clear he was going to play for 4 million, not the ridiculous extension Tanny gave him?

The Jets could have been in the playoff hunt with at least a SERVICEABLE QB last year.

I count 3 games Geno lost all by himself...(one the Defense had a hand in)...

I still see the bias, and I question anyone saying Geno played pretty well last year after being benched twice and losing his starting job to a washed up Vick.

There's enough DB talent to say a young CB has to actually earn playing time.

There's no talent at QB (Besides Petty who isn't ready) to challenge Geno so what competition is there?

I can't believe the best CB in the league is fighting for a roster spot.

For those complaining about Geno not having to compete for the job...who is/was he supposed to compete against?

The only person he really could have competed against his first year was Sanchez and he got injured. Competition over.

His second year, you had Vick. Seriously? You saw how that worked out when he did get to play. Who is he playing for now?

This year his only competition is Fitz and he is still trying to recover from a broken leg. Not much competition there.

Also, do you guys think the coaches pick a day towards the end of training camp and tell the QBs that today is competition day and whomever does the best, they win the starting job? Nope. they watch the QBs from OTA's through training camp and those coaches know a lot more about the game than anyone on this (or any other) message board. They will play the QB who they think is the best.

I know most of you don't want to hear this, but Geno has been the best QB on the roster for the last 3 years.

With that said, Geno has to put something together this year or he will be done. He finally has some real NFL WRs to throw to and an OC that will try to help his QB out (at least not put in a bunch of wildcat plays once he gets in a rhythm). If the Oline can give him some time, I think Geno could actually produce some decent numbers this year.

Pennington said to give him some time, as "the light" didn't come on for him until his 3rd year as well.

I agree that Geno had a heavy stake in losing 3 of the games last year (Bears, Chargers, Bills) but 7-9 still doesn't put us "in the playoff hunt"

Nobody to challenge Geno. Allow chemistry to build and let him fuck up before you pull the plug

We should have beaten NE twice.

And Miami, in Miami. ( that big sack late helped Folk miss that field goal.)

    That's 10-6.

Green Bay was the game the D had a hand in, but Geno Helped, and Detroit was a clusterfuck all around, but Geno had three turnovers, and 1 fumble not lost.

Look at this season, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_New_York_Jets_season and plug in barely average instead of Geno.

    (Fitz, or El nacho Loco)

    Sickening.

In Fact had we finished at 10-6...beating NE twice...we would have won the division....

You realize there are Revis and Cro in front of Milliner, and *crickets* at QB, right?
