I mean all I keep reading is that the mocks and experts don't know anything and that any pick the Jets should not be criticized because they know more than us and the experts in the media are idiots....well I'd say the results are pretty startling.... Using the Scout Inc final value board from ESPN: Of all the players drafted in the first 3 rounds, THREE guys were rated as 6th round values or worse: Schlagel, pick #76 Jets, rated 6th rounder J Hatcher, pick 92 Dallas, rated 6th rounder E Smith, pick 97 Jets, rated 7th rounder And oh by the way, only 3 other guys were rated in the 5th round. So 97 guys get picked, 91 of them are rated 4th round or higher (hmm maybe they do know something after all) and of course the Jets had to be the one's taking 2 of the other 6 and 2 of the bottom 3. Maybe we are just that smart.
Nice post. The experts are pretty amazing how they normally successfully target where players get picked. When one team consistently picks players that everone has rated 2-3 rounds later most likley there is a signifigant problem with that teams FO. The jets FO was critized as being to young, to inexperienced and not having any scouting background or knowledge. We seem to be paying dearly for that lack of expereince and knowledge in this draft. Sure there is the possibility that the Jets FO knows something everyone else does not know. But more likely its the opposite.
Update, we're now 113 picks in, bout half through the 4th round and we still only have 3 guys picked with 6th round value or worse.
I'm not going to say I love or hate the picks; I just don't know yet. The fact of the matter is that none of us know how this whole thing works. Yeah we have a lot of guys ranked in terms of value, but none of us know how teams actually value these guys. Just last year everyone ripped the Patriots for picking Logan Mankins in the first who had a 3rd round grade or something like that. No one really knows who was targetting him or how highly other teams valued him. He also turned out to be a great pick. These picks may be great or they may suck. Let's just wait until they get on the field to determine how good or bad they really are.
Come on.. they're getting credit because they lumped 91 players in the 4th or better and they were taken n the 3rd or better? Yippee. This SUMS IT ALL UP: If these guys were so great at figuring the draft out, why aren't they working as a personnel director for an NFL team?
We have always been a team drafting so called "projects" which is the reason we have been so crappy for so long. This year appears to be no different. There is a saying that "the cover of the book has changed but the contents remain the same". That seems to sum up Tanny & Man in this draft sorry to say
You just can't be serious. Thats quite a good indication they know what they're doing and all I keep hearing is that after the first people getting picked were projected all over the place. Not true. I of course notice you don't address the fact that the Jets took 2 of the 3 lowest rated players chosen.
No, it isn't. I haven't a clue about the draft, and I feel I could have done 80-85 out of 97. Answer my question. If these guys are so great at this, why do they not work for NFL teams?
Somehow after sifting through the posts you made yesterday and so far whatever you are spewing today I think you'd complain if the Jets drafted Matt Lienart Reggie Bush D Brick Vernon Davis Michael Huff and Brod Bunkley after all they'd fill needs right?
Excuse me? What are you talking about? I disliked 2 picks yesterday, and they happen to be the two obvious reaches. whats your problem?
Why do we have to go through this year after year after year. Almost every expert has us ranked as one of the draft day winners and is complimenting the jets on its draft. And in the 4th round we got the RB that Pro Football Weekly reckoned was the 7th best in the entire draft.
I don't know what you go through year after year, but gotta be kiddin with the draft day winners thing...is NO smart because they drafted Bush? Those things are useless. All I'm saying, notwuthstanding the slander, is that our 3rd picks were terrible.
