mike smith on draft special just said that the jets wont trade up only trade down to get cutler or ngata....or stay at 4 and target hawk dbrick mario bush or vernon davis
...couldn't we just trade down for Davis? Not that I'm advocating picking a tight end at #4, but if they really think he's the next Gates or Gonzalez, trade down a couple picks, and if he's gone by that point, target Ngata or Cutler.
lets see: 1)Trade down for Cutler 2) Trade down for Ngata 3) Take Hawk 4) Take D'brick 5) Take Mario 6)Take Bush 7)Take Davis Yeah he really narrowed down what we're gonna do in this draft:up:
If the Jets are really sold on Davis, there would be no sense in trading down, because he aint gonna be available much lower. Ive seen lots of speculation that the 9ers might be interested with the sixth pick. I wouldnt be surprised or disappointed with that pick, provided we didnt pass on Mario Williams in the process. Williams to me is the one player in this draft that any team who passes on him will feel foolish real soon. Im not particularly concerned with Bush, Leinart, or Young... I could even see passing on Ferguson in favor of Davis if they feel he can make the kind of contribution to our offense that Gates makes in SD. But if the Jets had Mario Williams available and passed on him, I think Id stop watching football.
seriously..........no one has any idea who we are taking. Either the FO has done a great job of hiding something or the FO itself has no idea who they want. Besides Bush no one is a lock to go top 3, all this speculation is garbage.
Smith is tight with Tangini, so this is about as close as we may get to understanding what the Jets are thinking.
I would have to agree with this. Not only does it give us the QB that fits our team the best, but it also would potentially give us another pick on Day one which we always could use. I really hope we trade down with Buffalo and take Cutler at 8. Or something along those lines.
Oh ok that makes sense. I would be so thrilled if we picked up an extra 2nd or 3rd rounder and drafted Cut 'em up Cutler
According to his bio on ESPN: Michael Smith joined ESPN full time in September 2004 as an NFL reporter and a regular on Around the Horn. A graduate of Loyola University in New Orleans, Smith covered the New England Patriots for the Boston Globe for three years. So he's pretty tight with Mangini from his days with the Pats. He wrote a big article in January before the Jets hired Mangini on why EM was an ideal fit, and he also wrote a profile on the relationship between Mangini and Tannenbaum. I put a quote from that story in my signature below.
i think he knew who michael smith was, but thought that he was always referred to as michael, so he got confused
He's 100% correct. Considering he offered 7 potential options though, it would be impossible for him not to be.
