Per Jason LaCanfora's twitter: I pray to god this is not true. This organization would be a complete disaster if they went from Tannenbaum to Tannenbaum's #2. If they fuck this up with Gamble or Caldwell I might have to take a break from heavily supporting this team... This would just be sad. Hopefully this is not the case.
I highly doubt that will be the case. If so, why hire a headhunter firm in the first place? Woody may not have much football acumen, but he probably has a very good business intiution. Wasting 200K for an in-house candidate doesn't strike me as financially sound.
This would be moronic. Right now the Jets need fresh perspectives in the front office. They need people there that haven't been around and bring new ideas on how to build an offense. Scott Cohen is not that!
Woody has great buissness intuition???? He was born into billions, If any of us were born into billions any one of us could have the same success. Woody isn't some self made type of billionare , you can tell he doesn't know shit sometimes
Cohen is the default choice until they hire somebody else. He's the assistant GM. I think it would not be a good thing if he was hired as GM primarily because it would prevent new ideas from coming into the organization at a time when the status quo is frankly a bit warped and ineffective. Ideally the Jets hire a guy from a successful organization to come in and manage the talent acquisition process. Cohen could remain as assistant GM as long as it was clear the the new guy is the one making the final decisions.
But still, it's common sense 101. Why waste money finding someone if you were going to hire someone in your organization. Woody Johnson has money, but 200K isn't exactly something that many people throw around.
At this point it makes no difference who the GM is. Rex is here and has major say in all decisions. Woody Johnson is still a clueless putz. Nothing has changed.
Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora Heard the Browns were keeping an eye on Scott Cohen as well for their ongoing GM search
The Rex Kool-Aid drinkers want continuity. This is continuity. Rex is the boss. Cohen assumes the Mr.T role. When Rex drives the team into the ground in the next few years, then Woody will wake up. You hope he does.
If Cohen is promoted you know either/both: (A) Gamble and Caldwell were put off by how much power Rex really has in this organization; (B) Rex wants another "Yes Man" that will let him run the team. If Cohen gets promoted I am close to done with this franchise. It is frightening how clueless this entire organization is.
I'm sorry but this way of thinking is bullshit. Do you know anything about Cohen? I don't... but I don't think the reasoning that he has to be the same as his boss is a smart one. I know every fan wants big changes... I just hope they hire the guy who they think can do the best job, regardless of how the media and fans take it. http://thejetsblog.com/news/jets-add-scott-cohen-as-new-assistant-gm/ He's been part of the Eagles for quite a bit and is considered an up-and-comer. He's also from the scouting and pro personnel world... so if he ends up being the choice I'll be ok with it.
