from PFT http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm JETS WANT JENKINS by Michael David Smith Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that trade talks are heating up between the Jets and Panthers, centering on defensive tackle Kris Jenkins. Jenkins is one several defensive tackles being shopped around the NFL right now, with others including the Jaguars' Marcus Stroud, the Lions' Shaun Rogers and the Jets' Dewayne Robertson. Schefter reports that the Jets, who want a bigger tackle than Robertson who can play the nose in coach Eric Mangini's 3-4 defense, are expected to make a major push for Jenkins. There has been speculation that the Jets might trade linebacker Jonathan Vilma to some team in exchange for a nose tackle. The 28-year-old Jenkins has spent his entire seven-year career in Carolina and has made three Pro Bowls. He is due a $1 million roster bonus next week and base salaries of $2.955 million in 2008 and $3.71 million in 2009
Would immediately turn our 2 biggest weaknesses into strengths and give us a lot more options with the 6th pick, I love it.
this is very good. I would rather keep vilma and trade a third or fourth round pick for jenkins rather than trade away vilma for rogers. I think that jenkins can be as good as rogers. He has been healthy the past two years and is big enough to be a NT. Keep Vilma and bring in a NT to help in Tangini!
Imagine if we somehow ge Jenkins AND Rogers??? You stick Rogers at NT and Jenkins at LE.. That'd be one of the heaviest and most stout front walls ever assembled(I dont even need to know who the 3rd guy is).
I'm not willing to give up our #2 this year for Jenkins. I'd give up our #3 though and hope to get it back on Drob and Vilma.
trading robertson would be better so we get him off the books. Imagine if we could get jenkins, rogers, and draft gholston. This defense would all of a sudden look like a really painful defense to play against. A great secondary, beef on the line, and an edge rusher. How much more can you ask for on defense in one year?
To me, Jekins is a better fit at DE in the 3-4 than at NT. He's actually kind of similar to D rob where in he makes his living getting penetration but ocassionally struggles holding his ground. He's def. big and stout enough to handle DE..and also has the height.. This is why i kind of get the feeling we may target both Jenkins AND Rogers.
