2027 sixth round pick in return. Amazing we got anything. I’m sure we’re eating some money too but this saves us money now and longterm. edit: we’re eating most of the contract. Which means we’re out of it this year and no money pushed to next year. That’s a win.
We're paying more people NOT to play QB for the Jets right now than we are actual Jets QBs. Good to see that we're not doubling down on this situation after last season. The previous regime probably would have given him an $50 million extension and a no-trade clause for almost "making" the Pro Bowl last season.
We’re saving more money by trading and paying off most of his contract than if we cut him. And no money on the books in 2027. And a 6th, albeit a late one most likely. That’s a big win. Mouge is the real deal, really hope it works out big picture.
Fields as a person disappointed me just as much as the on field play did. Shitty body language all season long, a lot of disinterest in being anywhere whether it was press conferences, training camp, etc. I firmly believe he told the staff he didn’t want to run the read option or run a QB run centric offense because he thought of himself as a pocket passer. The whole reason you get a fucking guy like him is to run him like the mack truck he is.
I didn't have any faith in him at all coming into the season, but the Steeler game started to (briefly) raise my hopes. Oh well, it didn't work out. See ya!
So I guess the bills fan who said the jets were idiots for trading a 6th round pick for Geno will be saying the jets are geniuses and the Chiefs are lost for doing the same with Fields.
Weird trade for KC. Fields is God awful. Even if the jets are paying his entire salary, I wouldn’t want that guy touching a ball for my team. Still remembering getting called a troll on here all last offseason for not jumping on the “Fields is a good option” train lol.
Somewhat off point but he’s another example of why I’m fearful of drafting guys from OSU. They come from hyper-talented, stacked squads which can distort reality. NFL caliber qb throwing to future nfl star receivers (plural is intentional) defended by cb who would be lucky to get drafted. same happens on defense. Not saying the OSU candidates won’t be good nfl players but I’m never surprised when they underwhelm and drafting one scores the shit out of me.
Really? He didn't seem like that to me at all. Then again, Jets' seasons lately have caused me to not follow as closely. We certainly won't miss Fields - yet another QB who is just raking in the undeserved cash since he was a QB who played in a great college program. He will continue on as an NFL backup, and be fabulously wealthy because he's a QB who might do well.
I really hope that when Andy Reid addresses this at a press conference, and someone asks him why he thinks he can get the most out of Fields when it hasn't worked out for the Bears, Steelers, and Jets, he says "It's coaching".
I am 90 percent sure the point about him not wanting to run the option was confirmed. It was mentioned during a game where Fields was openly reluctant to running the option where he would be a runner. I wish I remembered the game.
Seems like something he probably should have known he would be asked to do on a team that only had 1 receiver and was preaching "ground and pound" as an offensive philosophy.
Great job by Mooge. As some of us were saying, the hope was to get a similar deal as the Raiders got for Geno, and this was almost identical, even better, since we do not have to give the 7th like the Raiders did. Had KC eat 3 mil out of 10 too. Well done by Mooge!
The Chiefs are taking on ~$3 million of his $10 million, while were taking on $3 million of Geno Smith's contract. So financially its a wash, we had to pay Fields anyway, now were paying the exact same figure for Geno Smith who at least doesn't hold onto the ball forever like a lil bitch lol
Will Mahomes be ready for the start of the season? JF may have to start a few games if he isn't. Good job by Mougey to get something and move on.
This also shows Fields is not viewed around the League as badly as he played for us this year. It's not just KC, Schefter reported multiple teams wanted this, but Fields preferred KC. Our offense had way more than just QB problem. The more evidence comes in the more it feels justified that Glenn moved on from pretty much the entire offensive staff, including Tanner. But still, Mooge got a pretty good deal here. Fields was traded for a 6th, which is the same value he got after Chicago, where he was coming off a season way better than this one. Really the only time where Mooge had a trade, which was not a clear win is with Howie Roseman, Carter for Metchie and 6th/7th pick swap.
For me it’s having $0 on the books next year that makes this a big win. If we cut him we’d have owed either $9 mil next year or $3 mil each of the next three (couldn’t confirm which was the actual case) Instead we get to completely move on from him on 3/16, gimme a hell yea
