Sundays game likely didn't surprise anyone who's followed this team. I think the defenses late collapse in a few games this season can be attributed as much to the O's failings as to the lack of execution. Ryan's implemented defense, and the play on the field should have made this team more of a contender this year. The more I think about it, the more I realize just how much of a mistake it was going into this season without a veteran to teach MS. Before I get beat up due to the fact that many on this board were saying this months ago, remember that the general excitement surrounding training camp, and the first few games made everything feel right, and pretty much blinded me to reality. My (impossible) revisionist history would have kept Pennington here last season. I believe he would have had good to great year with us. Then imagine the impact a player like that would have had on our under-experienced, but talented young QB. The decision making, and management skills MS lacks don't automatically come from being thrust into a starter role. The question is: is next season too late to try to fix this mistake, and if not, who do we bring in? Will Chad be there/ willing to come back?
I still feel we need a viable backup QB. Might as well be an experienced one. The real question is...who's out there?
Chads arm was never good and now it will be shot, it's a shame because I really liked the guy, except in Miami because anyone that wears that uniform makes me want to puke. But if there was a way to get him here to teach Sanchez how to think like a NFL QB, it would be great. I don't think most people would argue that he knows the game well and is very intelligent.
I actually agree with this post...I think even with Chad's weak arm, he could have still moved us down the field with some dink and dunks, and at least not turn it over. AFTER this year, why not have him on the practice squad/inactive roster, OR even coaching staff to mentor Sanchez. God knows he needs some kind of help, and Cavanaugh isn't doing it for him. Why not give Penny a try at mentoring?
I like Sanchez and believe we should stick with him BUT I think the Jets would be a much better team if they traded for Vick.
Really? Do you remember when Pennington was here. People were packing his bags and offering to drive him to the fucking airport. If Penny was here this year...as soon as he played three bad games in a row all the posts on this board would have been..."Time to give Sanchez his shot"...."Pennys not the future, play Sanchez." If...If.... If Grandma had balls she'd be Grandpa
Not neccisarily. Penny was only pulling down 1.4 and there was enough cap room to keep him with Favre (I'm going on memory for cap numbers so if I am wrong then forgive). I just don't think Penny would have ridden the pine after Brett arrived. Even though Chad was an average QB, he is still a legitimate starter. I don't think his pride or the Jets FO would have felt comfy carrying two legitimate starters. Although Chad was always the good soldier. However, this is all speculation. I hope and pray to Revis that Penny comes back. It will give us a better than legit #2 QB and will accelerate Mark's learning experience. Yes - Chad's arm is small but his brain is big - bigger than even some of the best QBs this league. Conversely, there are teams in this league that still need a proven starting QB and Chad will most likely get a starting job.
Shame on you man SHAME on you, fucking Vick seriously? Granted he hasn't had a chance really to play on the Eagles but i'm starting Sanchez over Vick, that's a new low
I listened to an interview in which Pennington said he was still pretty pissed off at how the Jets treated him... I think he won't be coming back to NY. However I can't see him go back to the Dolphins as a QB. Henne is their future, they traded for Thigpen who is a nice prospect and they just drafted Pat White. Will he hang up his boots and become the DOlphins QB coach? If not I would really like the Jets to make a move and bring him in as the veteran backup.
I think Ainge will impress next year. He has the size, the arm, good college experience and 2 years to watch and learn. I know he will never get a chance to start unless MS gets hurt, but my guess is that he wins the #2 job and may see some time next year bc I am not convinced that MS is the most durable QB.
This is like the 5th thread on this topic. He's not too happy with the Jets, he was a class act all the way and the Jets cut him like he was a back special teams player.
If Chad were willing to come back, I'd take him in a heartbeat. He'd be a great mentor for a young QB. When Sanchez goes to the sideline, he has to talk to Clemens or Ainge or O'Connell. You think they know much about quarterbacking? Chad does. I don't care if he can't throw the ball 10 yards anymore, if he wants to play, I'd bring him back. At the same time, if Sanchez were to get hurt for an extended period of time, I might use Ainge/O'Connell instead of Chad. I assume Clemens is gone. I just want a veteran QB who can help bring Sanchez along. Chad knows the system more than any other veteran who would be available, and if he'd swallow his pride, I think he'd be a great fit.
Here's two that I could find- http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=51949&highlight=Chad http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=50776&highlight=Pennington
The best thing to happen to the Dolphins, who in my opinion will be the 2nd wild card, is noodle arm getting hurt and Henne taking over.
The point isn't that Chad would play. The point is that Chad could mentor Sanchez. People in Miami say Pennington helped mentor Henne, which is part of the reason why he's playing pretty well.
