If there was to be any fallout from Rex Ryan's words about Mark Sanchez on Sunday, Wednesday would have been the day for the quarterback to air his grievances.

Ryan said that he considered benching Sanchez in the midst of a game where he went just 17-of-44 with no touchdowns and an interception.

When asked about it immediately after the game Sunday, Sanchez seemed to understand the maneuver, taking a large share of the blame.

Wednesday -- Sanchez's day to speak to the media -- reporters brought it up again, asking him if he thinks people in the building are doubting him.

His answers sounded a tad less stoic than last time.

"I don’t know. It could happen," he said. "It’s a tough business, you’ve got to be thick-skinned. I just need to be ready to play."

Then, he was asked if Ryan's comments showed directly that his coach was doubting him.

"You could say that," he said. "I don’t know. Ask Rex."

Sanchez didn't seem overly upset or frustrated about the line of questioning. Though, a three-game span with just one touchdown, five interceptions and an average quarterback rating of 41.6 could speak to a whole separate list of frustrations.

Here's the rest of the Q and A from that point on:

Is it frustrating when you make mental mistakes?

"Sure. You watch the film and say, 'Come on. You’ve got to have two hands on the ball. That’s too easy.’ It’s one thing to go through a tough read or get fooled by a defense, but something that you can control, you want to get that right. As frustrating as it is, it just needs to be fixed. That’s the focus and that’ll be the emphasis this week."

Will you have a meeting with Rex this week? (Ryan later confirmed they would)

    "I don’t know. He hasn’t said anything, so I don’t know yet."

Does it put a dent in your confidence knowing coach thought about benching you?

"It’s something that can’t rattle you as a starter. I’m the guy and the offensive guys rally around me. That’s always going to be Rex’s decision. It’s his prerogative. He says who the quarterback is. As long as it’s me, I’m playing my heart out for the team and I think the guys know that. I’ll take all the reps I can get and be ready to play, just like always."

He is going through a rough patch. He was playing better this season. He's hit a rough patch and he he has to continue to work hard, improve and do better. And its not all on him. His line has to block for him, his receivers have to catch the ball. The gameplan and playcalling has to improve. I think he'll do a better job this weekend.

I think he's trying to light a fire under Sanchez, I don't think its needed though. I don't feel Sanchez isn't motivated or not trying his hardest. He'll learn from this and grow he's still very young and learning.

FWIW on this weeks Inside the NFL Chris Simms said Sanchez has probably the hardest job in the NFL as a QB. Something about seeing him throw more 20 yard out routes than any other QB in the league. Something like tha.

    ^ Simms' analysis was perfect.

The media can eat shit. That whole article can blow me. Fallout? There is no fallout, its a rough patch for a 2nd year QB.

    Eat me.

Sanchez has a tough job and they have put alot on this young QB. I personally think Schotty's game plan and play calling unnecessarily adds to the degree of difficulty here. I think he comes out and has a good game on Sunday.

I felt bad for Sanchez when I heard Ryan say that. I think the kid has had a couple of tough weeks, seems to be flustered and lacking confidence. Publically announcing doubts about him to the press is not likely to help Sanchez's confidence level heading into a tough game against the Steelers.

I don't blame Ryan for thinking it, I don't think he should have said it publically. Tear him a new butt in the locker room, do whatever you want. That kind of stuff belongs in house, imo.

This is a non-issue. Who gives a fuck who is doubting who right now... Sanchez just needs to focus on the game, and he knows this.

Yep, you're right. And now that Ryan put it out there, he is getting bombarded with questions about what Rex said, instead of questions about his upcoming game. So while he does indeed need to focus on the game, he is being interupted every time he turns around.

If it were my QB it would be an issue. YMMV.

Agree all the way. Sanchez is a smart kid and he works hard. The woes of the team are not all his fault. The running game hasn't been there, receivers have a case of the drops and the O line could be a little more solid. He still needs time but I have faith in Sanchez and the rest of the team. Go! Jets! Beat them steelers!

Let's not forget that Ryan benches running backs for fumbling. Why shouldn't Sanchez be under the same scrutiny? Stop with the butthurt bullshit Mark. It's week 13 and now he's figuring out that he should have two hands on the ball?...And that's what he'll be working on "this week."?!?! Give me a break.

I've said before that Sanchez is lucky to be a Jet. Think Tomlin or Belchick or Reid would put up with that kind of shitty play from a quarterback? We haven't scored a touchdown in 9 quarters of football! The Packers game should have been the wake-up call for the rest of the season. This team seems to get way too complacent after a win or two.

I hope the ONLY reason Sanchez wasn't pulled is because we have no one behind him that's worth a shit. What was all that bullshit about how Brunnel and Cavanaugh would use foam bats to get Sanchez comfortable in the pocket? He looks more skittish than ever.

Think about that...as shitty as he's been, he's our best hope. I like Sanchez, but god forbid he sprains an ankle or gets appendicitis. We'd be totally screwed. Our depth at other positions is just as thin it seems.

Do I sound harsh? Yeah maybe. In two weeks we've gone from being in a position to take control of our division to struggling to score field goals...never mind touchdowns. And our quarterback is working on fundamentals? And next up is the Steelers? Holy shit...what happened to this team.

    Whew...I feel better.

Gotta disagree man. Benching a running back or reciever for a few series is incomparable to benching the quarterback. You're right when you say Sanchez should know better in these situation - fumbles, bad reads, poor throws - but putting him on the bench for a few snaps won't change anything.

Regardless of what's been said about him I do like Sanchez. He's shown tremendous amount of talent and intelligence/awareness these past two seasons. Inconsistency has plagued his short career but it's silly to think he'd be an all-world qb at this point.

Schotty needs to tailor his playbook towards Sanchez: dumb it down, allow him to make quick, high percentage passes. The playcalling I've seen is akin to something you'd see with the Colts or Chargers; the Jets are not built to run that type of offense.

Very well said. I know its emotional but this knee-jerk reaction is insane. Sanchez is so young and green still. He's showed incredible skill in flashes, he will learn to use it more consistently.

I think we need to let the 2nd year QB roll with the punches and deal with the adversity. It's the only way he'll reach his potential.
