There was a thread like this for the 2019 season. It was interesting to see what type of stats people thought Sam could put up. It was also fun to look back to after the season was over. Passing Yards 3,750 Completion Percentage 63.5% Passing TDs 26 Interceptions 13 Rushing Yards 250 Rushing TDs 3 Fumbles 5 W/L Record 7-9 I think Sam does show growth and improvement. I do NOT think he will breakout. The WR group just doesn’t have enough depth or difference makers. Luckily Darnold does have a solid group of Tight Ends and a versatile RB in Bell (even though he isn’t as fleet of foot). The OLINE is better, but how much better is the big question. It is very important that his completion percentage continues to go up and I think it will. This is a significant factor in determining his ability to read defenses and also showing an understanding of the offense. Hate Gase all you want and I hate him plenty, but I think he is a decent/good QB coach for Sam. Terrible Head coach, but good for Sam’s mental growth. I wish I could predict more wins, but the schedule is awful and we still have no pass rushing threat.
Passing Yards 3,317 Completion Percentage 65.5% Passing TDs 29 Interceptions 22 Rushing Yards 284 Rushing TDs 2 Fumbles 3 W/L Record 6-10 Out with gonorrhea: Weeks 6-9
If he plays all 16, 250 yds passing a game is 4,000, should be very possible 28 tds 18 int's Better oline and better running game will help
It used to be said that the biggest step a QB made was between years two and three. I don't know if that holds true any more, as these guys routinely start from day one now. Like Pennyandthejets said, I don't think Sam is poised to break out this year. I think another steady progression is most likely, given his supporting cast. So... Passing Yards 3,400 Completion Percentage 64.0% Passing TDs 22 Interceptions 10 It's not earth-shattering, but if he can show steady improvement with all the stuff he's had to contend with, then I think he will be on a very encouraging trajectory.
I think this is shooting a bit high but I don't see how it's unattainable. He should take a big leap forward with protection. Passing yards - 4,100 Touchdowns - 26 Interceptions - 11 Completion percentage - 64%
I don't believe he will improve that much either, as far as stats is concerned. All I hope to see is him taking control of the offense, be more secure with the ball as last season I thought he had too many careless throws which could easily have been intercepted. Cut those and stats will get better, but I think they don't really jump without better receiving corps. Passing yards 3473 Passing TDs 26 Interceptions 12 Fumbles 3 Rushing TDs 4 Comp.% 63.4%
Passing Yards: 4,050 Completion Percentage 64.8% Passing TD's: 28 Interceptions: 12 Rushing Yards: 180 Rushing TD's: 2 Fumbles: 3 W/L Record: 6-10
I’m not going to give numbers because I don’t think they are going to be all that impressive considering what we’ve given him to work with at WR, the schedule, the coaches, a new OL that has to gel, etc. I just want him to look competent and like he’s in control of the offense.
Passing yards - 3500 Touchdowns - 21 Interceptions - 14 Completion percentage - 62% Someone please tell me why these numbers are way too low..
Hard to phantom, but for all the prognosticators out there, in the history of Jets football, they've only had a QB throw for 4k yards once. ONCE!!!!!! .........jus sayin.
The throw at 0:16 seconds is just ridiculously special. It reminds me of a throw Favre would make. It scared the crap out of me watching the game live and in the name of being fair; he didn't fit this in against the 2014 Seahawks secondary. https://www.nfl.com/videos/sam-darnold-s-best-throws-vs-the-giants-week-10 You'd like a little more zip on it (and he has the arm strength to do it), but the fact that he squeezed a touch throw in that window between three defenders in a shell zone while flat footed is a special throw. He has all the ability. I'm pumped to see what Sam does even if he's throwing to Vycint Smith, Jeff Smith or Jaden Smith.
I think many Jets fans would be happy with this, except for the record of course. Are we losing shootouts this season? I’d take that 6-10 over a low scoring bore fest 6-10, I guess.
I see 2017 QB's Watson and Mahomes just signed big deals. Using this logic, Sam could potentially be paid after this 2020 season. A lot of money will be on the line for Sam. The team has not exactly set him up for success either, but he knows what is on the line. Potentially $40 million+ a season. Look for Darnold to take a big step this season. He has many reasons to be determined.
More travel, more difficult schedule, and less time to develop chemistry because of the pandemic mean a drop off in wins from last year IMO. I'd love to be wrong, but I can't set expectations higher just yet. As for whether we lose shootouts, I see us losing a few games in that manner. The offense will need a few games to get going given how many new players we have.
I love the kid but...just don't envision a great season out of him. We don't have the receivers. O-line should be better. Running game will be fine. Defense will be ok...not terrible but not a D that scares anybody. What I want to see from him is cutting down on silly interceptions. Having the O-line keep him upright. Becoming more comfortable in the pocket. Have that completion percentage tick up (I want to see 62% and up)
Who needs stat projections when one WR taken at #59 in the draft after all the prime talent was gone says it all? At least they drafted a backup QB for Darnold in the 4th Round, who by all accounts has failed to impress.
It's unattainable with our receiving "talent" I'd guess 3,500 TD's - 24 Int's 15 Comp percentage 62% 2-3 rushing TD's 7-9
Much depends on whether Gase figures out how to plan and use an effective offense that is fit to the talents of his players. So far he hasn't shown he can do that. But I'll be optimistic and believe he will at least improve in this regard, so: Passing Yards: 4,000 Completion Percentage 66% Passing TD's: 30 Interceptions: 15 Rushing Yards: 200 Rushing TD's: 4 Fumbles: 3 W/L Record: 6-10
I would take those, they are really good numbers. If those statistics came to fruition I'd think that our W-L record would be better than last year and we could battle for wild card place. Pretty optimistic take IMO, but would love that.
