good interview. worth a listen. talks more football. his TLDR of the offense: Been in the system for 10 years. it's an SOB to deal with. puts a lot of strain on the defense but makes it easy for the QB. elevates players. cool system that's simple for people to learn. creme de la creme of offensive football in his opinion. TLDR of the defense: 4-3 base, not exotic. good sound fundamental football. get pressure with 4 players. 3rd down you see more creativity and scheme creating 1 on 1s. built on technique 1st. understand your job. very black and white to unlock their athleticism. What i really like on the offense was gase believed his system was best but needed talent for it. was hard to learn. blamed the players for not working in it or fitting it in. saleh seems like he'll make it work with what he has and it's easy on players
talks about sam. believes he can do well in the system. said the system makes QBs better and it's friendly for them. lists names like ryan, rodgers, tannehill, hoyer, who all did best in the system
Love it!! this brings back memories for me when Paul Hackett was our OC and all we heard over and over was how it takes 2 or 3 YEARS to learn his fucking system. That used to drive me nuts. Three YEARS to learn how to run an inside draw play on third and 18, which we seemed to always be in. And he was another brainiac who refused to tailor his system to his players’ strengths...it was all about his fucking system He was Gase 1.0 god we’ve had terrible coaches!
Loved it. He's a straight shooter who knows who he is and what he wants from the team. I like that he answers questions about specifics with his philosophy instead of promises, at least at this initial juncture. I also like that he talks of using simple systems that let players use their athleticism as opposed to our recent history of complex read and react systems. Lastly, every time he talks the answer is always about collaboration between the coaches and front office. We need the front office to target players that fit what the coaches want for their system. What a welcome change!
