However, there are one or two things to watch out for. First, a little history: In the past, June 1st was an extremely important date for salary cap purposes, because any players cut after that date would give rise to a cap hit that would be spread over two seasons, rather than all biting at once if they were released sooner. Therefore, we used to see a lot of teams wait until then to make cap-saving personnel moves. Since 2006, teams have been able to treat two pre-June 1st cuts as having been made on June 2nd for salary cap purposes, which basically meant that most of the players that were likely to have been cut for cap reasons had already been released once June 1st came around and there wasn’t a sudden influx of available talent like in the past. Since there is no cap in 2010, this clearly doesn’t matter anyway, as teams will have already made cost-cutting moves and the dead money is unaffected by timing, especially with the status of some of that dead money yet to be decided officially. However, June 1st could see some moves which may indirectly or directly affect the Jets and/or their AFC East rivals . . . rest of article : > http://www.thejetsblog.com/2010/05/30/salary-cap-update-june-1st-looming/
