The Jets Red Zone Offense entering the game was #1 in the NFL. This was with a rushing and passing O that is in the low-20's in both. That is unheard of.....I cannot recall (someone wanna look it up ?) that even a team that didn't have Top 10 in both rushing/passing was #1 in RZO (not sure how long they've been keeping the stats; do they go back and re-figure them for the 1970's and 1980's ??). If someone had told me before the year that the Jets would be #1 in RZO, I would have figured we were close to 12-4 on the year. If you were asked before the year to name which team would be #1 in RZO, I bet everybody here -- and ditto all NFL fans/experts -- would have given 90% or more of their votes to Green Bay, New England, and maybe the Saints. I don't know what it means that we are not only very good -- say, Top 10 -- in RZO, but #1 overall. It can't be luck. The field is shorter and if Sanchez has problems overall in passing/reading Defenses, you would think with less field he would have even more problems. Our rushing attack is much worse so you know we aren't bursting it in. This is going to go down as one of the most bizzare conundrums I can recall with the Jets, or any NFL team for that matter. Thoughts ?????
The Jets can never do more than one thing well. They were criticized last season for poor red zone play, so they fixed that particular problem.
I wonder if we finished 1st in RZO. Still, even 2nd or 3rd is unreal with the Rushing/Passing "O" we had this year. I can't explain how we could be so good in the RZ and so lousy elsewhere.
It seemed when we scored it was always on methodical drives. We never had that big play score. So when we couldnt score, all our other drives stalled. We didn't go down the field much so that hurt out chances at a big play .Sanchez threw behind receivers which hurt big plays and receiver couldnt get separation to make yac. While we could score very well in the red zone, we couldnt get there because every drive everything had to go perfect or we couldnt drive
And the one thing that is bothersome is we never had a wide receiver wide open like Tone in the AFC championship last year. Not sure why nobody could get open this year.
