I highly doubt we trade up for Coples. There hasnt been much buzz about him lately, so he could drop come draft day BTW, probably should be in the draft forum
I don't see us trading up for anyone. We need as many quality players as we can get our hands on and we need depth.
Could be at UNC to also scout Dwight Jones, WR, he's a big target and should be available in the middle rounds. Coples won't be available at #16.
The Jets need a pass rusher now, not in 2 seasons. They can't afford to draft a DE and convert him to LB. There's too much likely lag in that process. They need a LB who can play at a high level this season. If they were the Steelers they'd have drafted the guy who was going to step in this year 2 years ago.
It doesn't take much learning to be an OLB if you are strictly rushing the passer. His job won't be that much different.

I will reference the Steelers repeatedly until I think the Jets are somewhere close as an organization. I expect that process to take years, if not decades. Call it "The Emperor's New Clothes" strategy of posting. When the Jets put on some clothes I will stop talking about the clothed people standing next to their naked ass.
Yeah but what good does that do us? We'll have a pass rusher who can't cover anybody in the flats and is only really good on passing downs. We've already got Aaron Maybin for that. Do we really need to double down on one-dimensional pass rushers at this point? A big part of the Jets problems on defense last year was they didn't have enough solid 3-down guys. That lead to a lot of different packages on defense and the Jets got caught several times with the wrong personnel on the field and that lead to at least one loss and probably another also. The Jets need to find a ROLB who is a complete player. Their odds of doing that are greatly increased if they draft an OLB who was a complete player in college instead of trying to convert a DE on the fly.
Lol, fair enough. I don't think this organization will ever be anything close to the steelers though. I certainly don't expect it to happen.
The reason Maybin isn't a 3 down linebacker is that he gets steamrolled against the run. We don't need a pass rusher that can cover someone in the flats and if that were Maybin's only problem, why would he be able to play on passing downs? We need a 3 down OLB that can play the run and rush the passer. If they can drop into the flats and cover right out of college that's a bonus. The Jets will never be the Steelers.
There was an article posted a few weeks ago about how most of the effective 3-4 rush OLB played DE in college. It's in the draft section. EDIT: Here's the link http://www.football.draft-hub.com/blog/3-4-olbs-where-did-they-play-in-college-2
Exactly. Maybin being one dimensional is all about his size. Im not worried about getting a LB that can cover because honestly there is very few that can. If he can get the QB and not get exposed on run plays then I will be very happy.
I would rather have Melvin Ingram than Coples... Ingram is very versatile and can play DE or OLB easily.
