Espn radio just reported that the Jets and Raiders are talking about swapping first rounders and also the Jets getting Jerry Porter..The original trade was "The Saints and Jets would swap positions, allowing New Orleans to select Williams at No. 4. The Jets would then trade the No. 2 pick to the Raiders in exchange for the seventh selection, wide receiver Jerry Porter and additional picks, likely future choices. That move would allow the Raiders to pick either Leinart or Young." The Saints are now out of the picture Sorry if this is old I just heard
Your title would lead for us to believe that it happened. Your text mentions it as a possibility. Which is it?
So, the Jets would now have Coles, McCareins, Porter and Cotchery at WR? Um, I'm not thinking that the Jets would trade for Porter unless they have definite plans to get rid of McCareins. Imagine how happy he's going to be as the slot receiver next year only on the field for 3rd downs? And Cotchery's airspace will be gone altogether which I think would be a huge mistake as he represents the only upside potential the Jets have on O right now.
Whats too good to be true? Porter for moving back from 4 to 7? I like Porter but he's not that good and he's got a fat contract. You gotta get a draft pick too, hopefully a 3rd rounder but maybe a 4.
Exactly. Porter would be a good pickup for a team in dire need of a WR, but I don't see the Jets there right now. Certainly WR is not a need position unless the Jets have written off Cotchery and I'd hate to think that's happened already.
Sorry if the title was misleading - Should have oput *RUMOR* up there...I just searched the internet for any crumb about this and found the info but it was still including the SAINTS here is the link..Near the bottom http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/04/26/SPGCRIFFNG1.DTL
Here is what is most important about the RUMOR: two well-placed NFL sources have confirmed that the Raiders have not made specific inquiries to move up in the order and that they are content, for now, to stick with the No. 7 pick. And: How much stock would one NFL general manager put in this rumor? "It's B.S.," the GM said flatly.
I think this is all contingent on whether Leinart actually makes it to four. If Mario Williams is availiable, I'd say screw the Raiders and pick the DE. Porter, talent wise, would be a nice addition. But as a person, he thinks too highly of himself. For those who like character guys, his ego sometimes ran out of control. You would think that someone who had Moss on the other side would pull better numbers, but his' were average at best.
Ok then Rumor Shmoomur, I'll chalk this up with all of the other rumors, until we see some meat on the bone...
are they talking about it or did it happen? if it's not final then why would you title the post that way? If it is legit, Joey Porter is a decent guy to get but why would we not have lobbied for an O-lineman, and what did we have to give up to get to #2 in the first place? The additional picks should be for this draft, what happened to that 37th pick? I don't see why, if we actually did move up to #2, we wouldn't hold that pick till draft day in case Reggie is not taken first, then if he is, decide if we wanna make the trade down. The deal just does not make sense to me right now. By the way, titling a thread as if something has already happpened when it is just speculation is a good way to get yourself banned.
Thats what they said about the Moss deal last year too... Coles and Porter would be such a sweet tandem at receiver
Not for posting it, but for giving away false news. (thats what you meant. I was just clarifying) That really is the biggest pet peeve of mine while on the boards...
