I can’t seem to find an answer on any article but does anyone know why the Jets draft #7 for round 1 but instead of #39 in round 2, they are bumped to #42. I know its only 3 spots but it could be costly. I don’t see anything talking about second round swaps from any prior trade so just curious how this second round order is decided.

Good question; I was thinking about that myself. It seems that it may be that tie-breakers for teams with the same record only apply for the first round and after that those teams rotate positions for subsequent rounds. Or maybe no tiebreakers are used at all and teams with common records just draw for the first round then rotate, but I haven't checked any to see if the math makes sense.

It has to do with strength of schedule and having same record, if there are three or more teams with same record they rotate,

So jets move down three spots and teams below them move up one, and I believe it will be like that for rest of draft unless the pick is traded, that brings in a different set of checks and balances.
