I know its kinda early to be askin this but i have some roster questions but i thought of some questions about some things now and in the near future Should we start Brad Smith over J mac for the rest of the season and then get rid of him in the off season? Can Hobson start at LB still?(i'm asking b/c when i see you guys talk about the draft some of you say we need another LB) I think he should still start b/c hes going to be huge in the playoffs this year Who is going to be our perminent starting cornerbacks? especially when we make the playoffs this year Should it be Cedric or Leon?(I also want them to share carries but i want it 70% to 30% in favor of Houston) Who's going to replace Kimo? Let me know what you think on one or all of these topics because these are some the issues that really come to mine when i'm looking at the jets but i think that they dont have many problems to begin with.
I would love to see Brad Smith over JMac.... Im iffy on Hobson... Id like to see them split the carries... but def Houston in the red zone Jets will def draft a DE to replace Kimo
In terms of running backs I wouldn't say that you have to establish a 70-30 ratio or somethin like that. Instead you run both guys in the beginning and see which one finds a rhythm. Last week it was Houston. Leon will come out some weeks and run well. It's all a matter of rhythm and feel. I like Mccarrins and Smith splitting the looks that Dwight would have gotten for this year. Although he has looked good, Smith is still an unpolished receiver and Mccarrins can make some good plays. I wouldn't want to cut him out of the game plan completely. In regards to next season, I can't see him being on the team.
i hope we eventually do start brad smith as our 3rd/slot WR so he is in there moreso than he is now. this way the defense will always have to account for him, sort of how defenses have to account for reggie bush, since brad smith can be used as a decoy on reverses, and other fakes. also, he can make plays as the WR and having him in there frequently gives us a chance to surprise the defense with a trick play when they least expect it. hobson is playing well enough to keep a job here but not as an OLB next season. he simply is playing out of position since he is a tackling machine, not a pass rushing, coverage player. in the 3-4 scheme, the OLB must have that certain skill set but hobson has the skill set of an ILB, which is shedding blocks and making tackles. he can come back next year if he chooses, however, the contract will not be lucrative and he won't get the desireable contract. he may look somewhere else. we must draft an OLB in this draft whether it be woodley or moses who would both fit perfectly in our scheme and should be around in the 20s when we pick. we should definitely keep dyson around considering he's shown us this season that he is a playmaker with many interceptions. and these INTs actually occur when hes covering a WR man to man, unlike ty law's INTs which would be when he was in zone (out of position most likely) or off tipped passes. it is still not clear what we are going to do with barrett, miller, or who we may go after in FA (samuel) so i guess we will have to stay tuned. i think houston should get the majority of carries since he can really pound the ball on the opposing team. leon is very shifty and can make some big plays but im not sure he can be a "move the chains" type of RB. it is also not clear if we are going to address RB in the draft, maybe draft marshawn lynch if he falls to us. we should draft a 3-4 DE in this draft, and a great prospect who we can most likely pick up is adam carriker from nebraska. he has wonderful size for a 3-4 DE, at 6'6 300 lbs and would really give us some beef on the DL to hold the gaps. obviously, he might make a huge impact as a rookie but i feel this is someone we should definitely keep an eye on leading up to the draft.
The von Oelhoffen suggestion intrigues me...It seems Bobby Hamilton plays with a little higher motor, yes both are 35 and are not the future, but Hamilton plays enthused and to me has an extra kick in his step...
We need to get some d this offseason. DE, DT, CB, and OLB! Right now, we have a lot of good players who are really well coached. Remember the first half of the season was bad for the D. So upgrades are necessary and we should addredd with at least 2 of our first 3 picks. On offense, I'd draft a guard and/or a tackle later on, but I'd want to pick up a good vet through free agency
Yes on Smith and yes on J-Mac getting the ax. Yes on Hobson. I don't care that he's slow - he's been playing great this season. CBs should be Dyson and Barnett. But Miller and Coleman have been improving too. I like all four and don't see CB as a major need. Cedric over Leon but I like seeing them mix it up too. Either of them over Barlow in any situation against any team. If Kimo has to be replaced, I see the Jets drafting a guy for him early. I see the D-line as the major need for the Jets in the off-season. I don't think the Jets will do very much in free agency next year but, if there's a bargain, anything is possible.
Holy shit!!! An enitre thread about next year without DRob thrown under the buss!!! Have we turned the corner on DRob?
Brad smith should see majority of time at slot mixed with J-Mac. but McCariens should be gone after this yr. Hobson is playing great, we just need a pure pass rusher at OLB to play a role in this D. Other than that Hobson has been great. Leon and Cedric? I agree they should split time, but I dont think theyre giving Leon enough time to get into rhythm. And the playcalling for Washington is pretty predictable. 50/50 or 60/40 for them. And we need to draft a 3-4 DE to replace Von Old, whether that means he spells Von Old for his final yr next yr or what. new blood is needed at DE.
At the GB game this past Sunday, we were able to see Bobby Hamilton in the pregame warm ups and that guy was ready to play. I don't know if he saw the field, but he was ready to kick some ass. He's older though, so I still think the Jets need to address 3-4 DE in the draft.
3-4 DE is a major need for this team going forward. As for Smith and McCareins, why mess with a good thing? Neither plays much, so play the guy who is better. This is week 14 coming up, and we're in the thick of the playoff hunt. Why throw in a guy who has played receiver for less than a year into a bigger role when he probably isn't ready? Not that McCareins plays a big role, but still, there's no reason to.
1: Well, neither technically starts, but Brad Smith has never played reciever in his life before this year, and Justin McCareins did decent the last couple years with all the Problems the Jets QBs have had....... 2: Why is everyone ocmplaining over Hobson? he has been one of our most consistant players this year, he's really having a breakout season in my opinion. 3: Dyson has been amazing at left CB, but at right CB I would like to see more of David Barrett, but who knows with Mangini........ 4: I would like to see 60/40 Cedric/Leon, but God knows week to week with Mangini....... 5: Dwayne Robertson, and we find a massive NT
