Anyone know his number? haven't seen him on the field. is he starting for Denver? if not, hurts our trade situation (hell, i'm just happy to have Jenkins)
Weird thing is Robertson is back to playing Nose Tackle. note: because a one gapping NT does not line up over the nose of the center, some people claim its not really a Nose Tackle. No one cared about this distinction when Drob was with the Jets, where he often played a one gapping NT.
Denver plays 4-3 don't they? In the 4-3 there are two DT's so there's not really a NT like there is in a 3-4. 4-3: DE - DT - DT - DE 3-4: DE - NT - DE
The DT who plays over the Center is also called NT in the 43. The big difference is that with the 34 we run, ever DL is supposed to play 2 gaps, and that?s what DRob had most trouble with. 43, every DL plays just one gap, which suits his playingstyle a lot better.
They recently switched to a non-traditional 3-4. Claimed their LBs were better than their DLmen, wanted to get their best people on the field.
I read a pretty interesting blog entry yesterday that is of interest. Not that it is entirely correct, but it's an intelligent take on how the Donks have shifted their defensive front, and could have some sort of logic behind DRob playing in the capacity you are talking about: http://mvn.com/nfl-broncos/
in a 4-3 theres a NT and a Undertackle. the NT in a 4-3 is supposed to be on the outside or inside shade of the center and command a double team from the C and G of whichever side theyre shading allowing the other 3 lineman to get 1 on 1's with their respective OL. Undertackle gets the one on one with the other interior lineman and is the primary pass rush DT. Undertackle is the position Robertson played in our 4-3 while Ferguson did NT. Undertackle is the only position Robertson can effectively play and he hasnt been used correctly for quite some time.
inside shade of the center? And in the 43 it?s all about Gaps while in the 34 it?s about man and space. If you?re a 43 DL, you?re top priority against the run is to stuff your gap.
