http://www.ganggreennation.com/2014...ike-vick-has-the-chance-to-start-for-the-jets Rex did a radio interview with WFAN Mike F. plugging Mike Vick as a possible starter. I wonder what Geno Smith is thinking???
Rex is trying to push Geno. Remember last year when he said Sancho had a fair chance to win the starting job in training camp, when we all know he didn't.
Open competition (at all positions) is in the best interest of the team and all concerned. Those who don't make it as starters will have the chance to watch, practice and learn so that they will be ready to step up and start if and when the opportunity presents itself (and do it well).
I believe, and this is just my personal opinion, I believe no matter what you have to play Geno. I think you need to see if he really matured those last few games or if it was just his yoyoing of one good game one bad game ? If Geno flops and is replaced by Vick I think you have to think about drafting a top QB next season some how some way. That is unless they think Boyd can be that guy potentially?
Yes, I can see you want to give Geno a chance but I would also like to see a SB win before I die and go to heaven, lol. Vick might do it for us this year. IMO, Boyd is the plan B that no one wants to believe in/ accept as reality, but when the time comes everyone will see how how he might be an answer. He could have come out as Pro last year but stayed for extra year, broke some records with S.Watkins. Guy is real deal, not just a friend of Ryan's kid.
Well yeah, I would assume if Geno plays like a bag of dicks in practice and in the pre-season, Vick would be named the starter.
What? Geno already started 16 games. And if all we have to show for it is a huge ? then maybe that says it all. Maybe Geno would be better off following the traditional path of learning and maturing in the background for 1-2 seasons, THEN coming in and taking over.
What Rex says and what Rex does aren't always the same thing. Thought you guys would have learned that by now..
He also once said Eric Smith reminded him of Ed Reed so we should mostly just ignore anything Rex says and watch what he does.
A simple flowchart of the Jets likely decision making process at QB this year: CheckGeno Is Geno ready to start? If yes goto GenoStarts If no goto CheckVick CheckVick Is Vick good to go? If yes goto VickStarts If no goto CheckBoydSimms CheckBoydSimms Is Boyd ready to start? If yes goto 2009AllOverAgain If no is Simms ready to start? If yes goto 2013AllOverAgain If no goto CheckGeno GenoStarts Rex: We're taking it week to week. End VickStarts Rex: We're taking it week to week. End 2009AllOverAgain Rex: Super Bowl! End 2013AllOverAgain Rex: Super Bowl! End
I think considering the fact that Geno was a 2nd round rookie made the chance that Sanchez actually could have started last year a pretty reasonable possibility. Of course they wanted Geno to run away with it, but I think they were aware that there was a pretty good chance Sanchez could be far superior in camp. If Sanchez imploded mid season, at least they'd have the bright young kid to come out and take over. Ideally for the Jets, Geno ran away with the job. The second most ideal situation was that Sanchez started as Geno developed some. I think being forced to start Geno when he clearly wasn't ready was the worst option for them. Sanchez was in that game late because it was an opportunity for him to put away the starting job, the idea that the coaching staff was trying to get him hurt is the biggest pile of bullshit I've ever heard. Not that I'm implying you said that last year or anything.
