Kellen Clemens reportedly suffered a cracked rip in Sunday's loss.

Clemens is scheduled to undergo an MRI after X-rays were inconclusive. Clemens said it was the coach's decision to keep him sidelined after his only pass attempt was intercepted and returned for a touchdown, but was in noticeable discomfort after the game. Chad Pennington would likely start if he misses time, with Brad Smith once again seeing work as an option quarterback. Dec. 17 - 10:22 am et

Damn this sucks....I wanted Clemens to play the rest of the year, to see what we have with him. Piss poor Oline or not.

Have the Cheatriots had a single game this year where they did not injure a member of the opposing team?

The injury to Clemens is devastating. Naturally Pennington is going to start the next two weeks. It’s extremely difficult to play QB with broken ribs. Management has some real tough choices to make. Is Clemens our QB of the future? Do we trade Pennington? Do we draft a QB who will be the future o f the club?
In my opinion, we should keep Pennington and draft a new QB. Clemens has not proven that he is the person to bring us to the promise land. It’s not all his fault. There is just something that seems to be lacking in his command of the game. We also need a WR who will demand double coverage. :jets:

At least we have a chance to win the next 2.

    Clemens is too fragile.

The Clemens injury will force the Jets to keep Pennigton for 2008. The fact that Clemens has not distinguished himself as a NFL QB makes cutting or trading Chad a non starter. Look for both of these guys to again compete for the starting job in training camp.

I have no idea what they are going to do about the QB spot but the CP era is over, that was clear by his benching. So CP will be elsewhere next season. CP has become very savvy with off the field matters, he knows even if they promise him an open competition for the starters job next season, that they will give it to KC and have him as the backup, so he is bolting. This injury could be a blessing in disguise, KC is overwhelmed and maybe he can take a took back and correct some of the things he is doing wrong. If CP plays like he did against the Pats, that will surely help is trade value, its not his fault JMac dropped a TD, Baker fumbled, and Nugent missed a FG -- that's a potential 17 points, but more than likely 10 against the great Pats and terrible windy conditions.

The only silver lining to Clemens being the starter next season would be another top 5 pick.

whether there is an actual crack in the bone, i.e. non-displaced fracture, is immaterial.....the extent of the soft tissue injury around that area is what will likely keep him sidelined.

so the curse strikes again.....we can't even get out young QB to finish out the year on the field for a proper evaluation.

    unreal....

yes, seymour should be fined, IMO, he kind a pile drove him into the ground with some intent, with his entire body weight. obviously a player cannot let up in that situation but it appeared his intent was such.

So, if true, I assume this would effectively end the "But Other QBs would've been seriously hurt" defense.

It was a great play, one our D should watch the tape on. If it was done to Brady I would have been more then happy.

On the bright side, with Chad in I think we lose the next two games, that assures us a chance at McFadden or Long. Clemens will be the starter next year, you don't give up on a QB after half a season

Clemens hasn't even show a glimmer of hope since he became the starter. He is overmatched. Perhaps he could be a nice back up, that is about it

    what?

Clemens has been getting knocked around left and right and has continued to bounce up off the turf.

Seymour driving him into the ground and cracking his rib is an idication that he's fragile?

    wow. just wow.

Agree to disagree I guess.....I don't know what people expect from a rookie (playing wise).

Yeah, if that had been reversed and it was somebody doing that to Brady there would have been a 15 yarder and maybe even a dq.
