The Jets are reportedly considering free agent G Joe Andruzzi.

Jets coach Eric Mangini has shown a penchant for signing former Patriots, but Andruzzi wouldn't help New York's offensive line much.

Could this be insurance in case Kendall leaves for Miami?

Kendall is under contract. He doesn't get to "leave for Miami". He goes where the Jets allow him to go unless they cut him, which isn't happening.

    hahahaha

  7. We have no use for Andruzzi. If we're gonna replace Kendall, let Jones,Clarke and Bender compete for the LG spot.

That would only make this O-Line worse than without having Kendall or Andruzzi.

  9. In terms of talent that would not be the case. both Andruzzi and Kendall are rapidly deteriorating in terms of talent. We may lose some leadership...but leadership isn't gonna improve our running game and overall OL performance

not to mention - and by no means am i writing off this year already - but if this shapes up to be an 8-8 year, letting someone like Bender gain experience now will pay dividends for the '09 run.

    cheers

Wow, way to really stick it to details. When I said "leave for Miami" I THOUGHT that i was IMPLYING that it would INVOLVE him being TRADED.

So, in case some of you didn't grasp that *cough* ... I hope this clears things up.

    SHEESH! :shit:

Experience can hide a great many faults, including deteriorating physical skills. I also want improved and younger players on the line, but I'm not sure the guys you mentioned would at this point be an upgrade. But I'm sure if one of them does begins to show improvement than Mangini will get them in there; competition at every spot is not just lip service from him. But I would not just jettison Kendall for Andruzzi. As mentioned, Kendall is very valuable because of his experience and his ability to back up Mangold. If he gets outplayed by one of the young guys, then he sits on the bench and provides valuable depth. Andruzzi is by no means an upgrade over Kendall. This is, unfortunately, all about money. Kendall wants to get his last big pay check, and the Jets are in no way obligated to give it to him...

    A) Sign him to the minimum with incentives

    B) Make him compete even for a backup job

    C) ut him if it dosn't work out.

Thats all you need to consider here

The thing that scares me at this point is last year we were in dire straights after getting rid of Mawae and they signed Teague. I said it then and stick by it, Teague sucks. If Teague started that line could have been awful. If we didn't luck out and have Mangold play like a probowler, we probably would have lost a few more games. Not too mention that Brick hasn't shown to be any great wonder at this point either. To me the jury is still out on this FOs ability to evaluate OL. They get a good grade for Mangold, a bad grade for Teague, and the jury is still out on the Clement and Brick choices (although I'm one of the few who thought Clement played okay last year). Will be interesting to see how this whole thing shakes out, but in my opinion Andruzzi would be a mistake....

FIrst off, Kendall can not leave for Miami, he has to be traded.
And I dont see Andruzzi coming here unless he's willing to take the vet min.

Bingo.. There is no risk on the Jets part.. What's a couple hundred thousand dollars.. He was a real solid player for the Pats years back.

I wouldn't mind if they signed him for the league minimum and for veteran depth. Quite frankly the Jets could use some better depth, they are pretty thin. And I don't see many better options if Kendall is traded. I wouldn't go long term or high salary though.

If he's brought in for depth I would like this move, but if he's potentially Kendalls replacement then we're taking a step backwards and it's a bad move.
