Based off of the ability to coach in the game and success(records). 1. Bill Belichick 2. Bruce Arians 3. Mike McCarthy 4. Ron Rivera 5. Pete Carroll 6. John Harbaugh 7. Sean Payton 8. Tom Coughlin 9. Andy Reid 10. Marvin Lewis 11. Todd Bowles 12. Mike Zimmer 13. John Fox 14. Lovie Smith 15. Chuck Pagano 16. Jason Garrett 17. Bill O'Brien 18. Mike Tomlin 19. Jeff Fisher 20. Jim Caldwell 21. Chip Kelly 22. Jay Gruden 23. Jack Del Rio 24. Rex Ryan 25. Mike Mccoy 26.Gus Bradley 27. Gary Kubiak 28. Dan Quinn 29. Mike Pettine 30. Dan Campbell 31. Mike Mularkey 32. Jim Tomsula What are y'all's rankings?
While I like Bowles a lot, I think it's probably a little premature to have him at #11 on the list. Mike Tomlin deserves to be a lot higher on your list imo. He belongs in the top 10. The Steelers play smart, tough football, they are always in the playoff hunt regardless of injuries, and they are seemingly always prepared for every opponent, and are able to make adjustments as they need. I also think that Sean Payton belongs higher on the list. I'm not sure that Mike McCarthy deserves the #3 spot, or that Tom Coughlin deserves the #8 spot. While Marvin Lewis has definitely improved, #10 seems too high for him. Jason Garrett probably belongs higher on the list. Jack Del Rio should be a little higher, and based on his work with the Texans, Bill O'Brien should be much lower. Rex Ryan definitely deserves to be closer to the bottom, if not the bottom spot itself. Mike Pettine definitely deserves to be higher on the list that Rex.
Here's my list. I took into account past accolades, what level I think they are at today, and potential for growth. 1. Bill Belichick 2. Bruce Arians 3. Mike Tomlin 4. John Harbaugh 5. Pete Carroll 6. Mike McCarthy 7. Ron Rivera 8. Sean Payton 9. Todd Bowles 10. Andy Reid 11. Marvin Lewis 12. Tom Coughlin 13. Mike Zimmer 14. John Fox 15. Lovie Smith 16. Chuck Pagano 17. Jason Garrett 18. Bill O'Brien 19. Jeff Fisher 20. Chip Kelly 21. Jay Gruden 22. Dan Quinn 23. Jack Del Rio 24. Gary Kubiak 25.Mike Mccoy 26. Gus Bradley 27. Rex Ryan 28. Jim Tomsula 29. Dan Campbell 30. Jim Caldwell 31. Mike Mularkey 32. Mike Pettine
I think your ranking is more accurate with the exception of Ryan and Pettine. Rex is a better DC, but Pettine is a much better HC. While Rex has had the title of HC twice now, he has yet to act like a real HC.
Mike Tomlin at 18 meant immediate dismissal of this list. Tomlin is a top 10 coach. Marvin Lewis - never won a playoff game Payton - 1 great year Rivera - need to see more than this year.
Look what he did in Indy when Pagano went down and he is just doing a great job with the Cardinals it has been said he is very innovative from multiple people
Please stop ranking Sean Peyton so high. He's like the Rex Ryan of offense. And Lovie Smith is pretty much a disaster nowadays.
Yeah I get that he's a good coach but I'm looking at super bowl winning coaches and am more impressed. Especially one in Carroll that was a play away from back to back. Not even an argument IMO
Ya I'm not gonna argue about the position because I agree with the championships as well. But you have to credit what he has done
Lovie Smith continues to run that truly stupid, outdated Tampa 2 defense. How can you possibly still run that defense in 2015??? Offenses know exactly where the defensive players are going to be at all times. They just put the recievers in the spot of the zone where no one is and pick them apart!! Bart Scott was on some radio show I was listening just ranting about this
Arians has won coach of the year twice. Cardinals are consistently winning He is not afraid to take risks Runs a tight ship Players and other coaches love him Watch the football life about him on NFL network. He will be a top coach in the league for a long time and one of the conditions he and when accepting the Arizona job was that he could bring Todd Bowles as his DC so hopefully it will be the start of a string coaching tree.
1 Beliturd 2 Pete Carroll 3 Mike McCarthy 4 John Harbaugh 5 Mike Tomlin The rest are all TBD, shitty, or old and forget the rules of the game occasionally (Coughlin).
opinions of coaches tend to be very fickle year over year. i like the jobs Carroll, Harbaugh and Tomlin have done. consistently very competitive, and the players respond to them. Belicheat prob the best going, albeit shady and a dueche. Reid and Fox have been good at multiple stops, and are doing a great job again this year. Arians the best of the recent head coaches. Coughlin extremely overrated...not very good at all imo.
