Raiders | Moss lashes out at Long
    Tue, 10 Oct 2006 05:41:43 -0700

Steve Corkran, of the Contra Costa Times, reports Oakland Raiders WR Randy Moss was critical of comments made by former Raider Howie Long, who questioned Moss' passion for the game. "For him to take a shot at me and say that I don't have a passion for the game, I love the passion for the game. If I don't have that much passion, you tell his (butt) to come out here and put on some pads on and go at me," Moss said in an interview with Fox Sports Monday, Oct. 9. "For Howie Long to say something like that is kind of bad because he knows, as a former NFL player, what it takes to get up for a game every Sunday," Moss added. "You got to practice week in and week out. Back in them days, he was probably popping pills and tablets and all that to get them up and going."

Howie would snap him in half!

Notice Randy doesn't say that he has a passion for the game, only that he loves the passion for the game. You know, kind of like that I love the Lamborghini Murcielago, but I don't actually have one.

Randy Moss calling out Howie Long is like Mel Hall calling out Mickey Mantle. AS Sundayjack said, whoever signed up Moss for this weekly radio show should get a raise. His comments get more and more stupid every week...

Having said that, I wish Howie would take him up on his offer...

ROFL it is funny though. and Moss is an assclown sometimes.

but Howie couldnt catch him. Howie could kill him though.

then again I've almost all my respect for Howie Long, mostly cuz of his hair, but Broken Arrow and Radio Shack made me forget he was a badass. Now he looks like a GQ guy who had his hair cut by a blind amputee.

but whatever, the games just different nowadays. more primadonna like definitely, but its hard to love a game you constantly lose. actually theres no excuse, but who would want to play for the raiders, honestly. theyre a fuckin joke right now, teams should be creating a buzz about possibly going 16-0. theyve managed to go the other route by week 5.

either way the media fodder that moss provides is entertaining. mindless, but entertaining.

Howie Long would have killed Moss in his prime.

    Plus, he went to Nova.

In his prime? He'd kill him now. If Moss sticks around for a couple more years maybe Howie's sons can take care of him. Chris (6'4" 270 pounds) is a junior DE playing for Al Groh at Virginia. The other is 6'8" 280 pound OT in high school. Just added the heights and weights for you Raiderjoe fans. I don't know their 40 times!

I have to go against the grain here and put my money on Randy Moss. First of all, any grown man who calls himself Howie I have little faith in. And Moss is right about them being able to pop pills (and do coke) back when Long played. Ask LT about that. Why do you think he was so fast from sideline to sideline? To him the sidelines probably looked like big superlines of blow.

Randy Moss is a MUCH better WR than Howie Long was a DL. Howie was not a HOF player but for some reason got voted in.

When in doubt guess a number close to 4.5, like 4.51 or 4.48. If the player gets signed or drafted by the Raiders substract anywhere from .1-.2 from that number.

What an ignorant comment. Moss is better by whose measure, Sportscenter? Long was superlative against the run AND pass. He played all 5 defensive line positions, sometimes in the same game. Constantly double and sometimes even triple teamed his entire career. 8 Pro Bowls to Moss's 5 so far. Hall of Fame All 80's first team, he and Reggie White were the only unanimous choices on the D line. And a Super Bowl champion. I could go on.

What the hell has Moss done to eclipse that? He hasn't been a premier WR since 2003. Will he even make the All Decade team? Long did EVERYTHING you want a DL to do at a high level. Does Moss do everything a WR can do to help his team win? Route running? Going over the middle? Blocking?

I GUARANTEE if Howie had his EXACT career in the Green and White instead of the Silver and Black you would never say that he's not a Hall of Famer.

Dude, I can't even believe you said that. Moss might be a much better WR, but he has pretty much proven to be a waste of talent. I cannot even begin to fathom how you can completely discount Long like that. Even if someone can make a case against him not being in the hall (as I'm sure you can), the guy was still very, very good nonetheless. The only hall that Moss has proved he belongs in is the Hall of Shame.

Moss To Long: Shut Up, Pill Popper!
Posted Oct 10th 2006 1:28PM by Adam Rank
Filed under: Raiders, AFC West, NFL Media Watch

The Randy Moss radio appearances are by far the most entertaining part of the Raiders season. Too bad he is acting like a little girl.

Moss lashed out at former Raiders player Howie Long, who had the audacity to call out the enigmatic receiver's passion for the game. (Like he was the only one.)

"For Howie Long to say something like that is kind of bad because he knows, as a former NFL player, what it takes to get up for a game every Sunday," Moss said. "You got to practice week in and week out. Back in them days, he was probably popping pills and tablets and all that to get them up and going.

"But nowadays with the drug-testing policies and the performance-enhancing policy, then it's hard for a player to just go out there with just himself and go out there week in and week out."
    Uh, what?

Maybe Randy was just making a joke. Maybe this was all just a conceived plug for his juice franchise. You know, "Today's players need a little pick-me-up. That's why I drink wheat grass smoothies from Inta Juice."

It would be much better than the truth. Moss has shown the maturity level of a teenage girl who was spited on myspace and has resorted to making up accusations about former players. Actually, that might be giving Randy too much credit.

And what is that they say about those who live in glass houses? Moss was the one who admitted that he smoked pot (once in a blue moon) and he wants to question Howie Long? A Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive tackle and former Super Bowl champion? This kind of stuff is bad when it happens on other teams. It is especially bad for the Raiders who pride themselves on their history. For somebody like Moss to call out the old guard is not only ignorant, but it is just plain stupid. (And really, does Randy think there are players in the NFL right now using any pills to get out of bed?)

Congratulations Randy, you have found a way to make Jerry Porter seem more credible.

I loved that last line!

PB's are meaningless, they are a popularity contest. Long was a GOOD but not great player. he wasn't a dominant player and shouldn't be in the HOF.

If Long was a Jet I wouldn't say he belonged in the hall thought joe Klecko was a MUCH better player and he isn't in the Hall.

if you think he's a better WR than long was a DL then what problem do you have w/ what I wrote?

Pro Bowls may be a popularity contest in some circles but they are quantifiable. What about the Team of the 80's? What about Defensive Lineman of the Year? Not a dominant player? I have an NFL films tape from 1986 where Shula calls him "the best defensive lineman in football" and Reeves calls him "the most dominant defensive player in football today". Dwight Stephenson, a HOF center, says the two toughest guys he faced in his career were Howie Long and Joe Klecko (more on him later). Jackie Slater a HOF tackle, said the two toughest guys he faced in his career were Howie Long and Reggie White. Peter King said he talked to Jeff Bostic, the Hogs' center, when Long was up for the Hall. Bostic told him that Long had to be in the Hall because the only guys those Hogs feared were Long and LT, and all five guys on the line would stress out when they had to prepare for him. The only other guys in his league who could line up over the center one play and dominate a tackle on the next play were Reggie White (the best of all time) and Klecko. Your statement that he was not dominant just has no basis in fact.

Klecko should be in the Hall. But you watched Klecko week in and week out (assuming you're old enough) and you're making a judgement on Long without the same knowledge. They were very similar in that they didn't usually have eye popping stats, their contributions made those around them better. And no offense, but I have a hard time believing that if there were a Jet defensive lineman who played 13 years with 8 Pro Bowls, a Lineman of the Year Award, unanimous Team of the Decade honors and a championship ring, you wouldn't think he belongs in the Hall.
