done deal... I'd take a shot on him for a 5th rounder.

EDIT: I'm not so sure, as the original post doesn't give the entire story. There is also a conditional 2007 pick involved that can be as high as a 3rd rounder.

Me too. Great job by the FO to steal a quality backup Qb for such a cheap price.

Better than wasting a 2nd to get Schaub.

For just a 5th rounder, absolutely. That's an absolute steal. Even if he doesn't perform all that well, he is a backup with real game experience. Well worth a 5th.

If there is a conditional that can be as high as the third round next year, that's a dealbreaker. There is too good a chance that any conditional pick would work out for the other team this year, since we have no idea if Penny can play the full year.

the determining factor is what 'level' he would have to play up to. If he just has to start x amount of games for it to be a 3rd - then no way.

Ramsey has so much potential, this could be a STEAL.

According to ESPN this morning, this is all but a done deal. It will either be a 4th or a 5th rounder.

Question: If they do trade for Ramsey now, would it un-due all the smokescreen they have been trying to create for the 4th overall pick (assuming we would not be taking ANOTHER quaterback at that point)?
Does this make trading down less likely?

No, it makes trading down and/or not picking a QB at 4 very likely.

But wouldn't they not get as much trading down, when other teams know we are not a threat to take Cutler at that point?

No, and you hold onto that 4th pick until the very end, and have the team that COVETS the guy who drops come in with a sweetheart deal. If they do not, you take the lineman and you do not lose.

He is garbage, a second teir backup at best. I have no idea why people are high on him he has not done anything in his career but throw picks, oh wait he can take a beating

33 NFL games under his belt, 24 of which were starts, if he had potentional his rating would not be 75.0 and YPA 6.56.

If we sign/trade for this guy, for the love of god Chad please get healty, Chad at 80% > Ramsey.

I would much rather we draft a QB, Chad's not a young puppy anymore, even if he comes back and plays well how many years does he have left....

He can take a beat'n ,unlike Fragile Chad. Oh and Most guys are happy because He's a quality backup who's 27 and is only making a mil per. Thats pretty damn good for player we will acquire for a 5th rd pick.

Everyone sounds like they want him to start and lead this team, for a backup fine, but not to start, watching him would be painful on Sundays.

Mangini isn't pulling the trigger on this kid if he thinks he's just a backup QB, I guarantee you that he doesn't think Ramsey is damaged goods and at 27 years old a change of scenary can do him good. He will be competing with Chad for the starting job if we trade for him, IMO.

He's going to Detroit and Miami next.

I think a 5th rounder is just a starting point in a very small bidding war.
