A Raiders spokesman confirmed Friday that the team will retain defensive coordinator Rob Ryan for the 2008 season.

Coach Lane Kiffin and Ryan himself both indicated in their season ending press conferences that Ryan wouldn't return. Several reports had him already headed to the Jets. It appears owner Al Davis overrided Kiffin's wish to have Ryan axed. It's another example of why no one wants to coach the Raiders.

They're trying to get the Jets to give up a draft pick for him.

Oh well, there's always Rex Ryan.

I would be thrilled if we got Rex instead of Rob.

Rex Ryan is interviewing for head coaching jobs...no way he would even think about coming to the Jets to be a coordinator

So much for him already being fired. Of course it was speculation, but still...

I thought the NFL eliminated draft pick compensation for everyone except coaches...thought it was a result of the Gruden to Tampa Bay???

Is the above still in effect?

And wasn't Herm to KC because of tampering by the Chiefs???

    Oh well.

If we can't have him, I'm just glad that it means the Raiders are a mess. The owner, the HC, and the DC all on a different page. I love it.

Given this news, does anyone think we will promote from within? If so, who might be promote to DC from the current staff (assuming Sutton is gone, which I think is more likely than not)???

When has any team gotten a draft pick for anything but a HC?

Why would he leave his HC job with the Cowboys? Makes no sense.

Give me a nose tackle who can eat up space, someone who can get to the quarterback consistently (Abraham-like, without the skirt) plus another stud corner and I'll take my chances with Bob Sutton. While I would have welcomed Ryan, what's the expression about chicken salad and chicken s***?

Hey the Jets are trading fools. You never know what'll happen if you dangle what they think they need in front of them.

Not to mention Al Davis just dicks around with anybody he can.

Its only if Jones deposes him as HC in favor of Jason Garrett. Its a rumor that's been going around ever since Wade was hired, that he was only keeping the seat warm for Garrett. So if that does happen, his name automatically moves to the top of the coaching carousel, and I don't think he would have a problem being a DC again. Its a real longshot, of course, but it may also be the best possible scenario. Not likely, but it could happen.
