I thought you guys would like some good press on the Jets. Kid looked good, and he seems pretty polished answering questions after. Nice start. (I left out the silly shots at the QBs at the end of the article) http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ses-in-his-first-game-with-the-jets/?tw_p=twt On a night of more heralded debuts for the Jets, Quinton Coples didn’t garner nearly as much attention. But maybe he should have. The first-round pick had five tackles, two for losses, a strip sack and a batted pass in his first game with the Jets. Coach Rex Ryan said Coples had “a tremendous game,” via Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger. “Some real encouraging things,” Ryan said. “That’s not surprising, but I was happy to see it nonetheless.” Coaches told Coples to plan to play all four quarters. He didn’t start in the base 3-4 set, but worked with the starters in the four-man front as well as in their 4-3 sub package. “I did very well,” Coples said. “I don’t have a grade for it, but I was very productive. I also have a lot to improve upon as well. It starts on Sunday when we go back to practice. I look forward to looking at this game on film and correcting my mistakes.” If Coples proves to be more than a physical specimen, the Jets have the potential to have a dangerous defensive line, whether it’s three or four men up front.
This is so funny, actually, because the morons in the Jets beat core have trashed the guy since day one of camp, like they have a fucking clue what is going on during practice at all. He's got a long way to go, but I really liked seeing him make plays last night. And the guy is HUGE! His arms are longer than my chick's entire body. But... it's still game one and the guy maade those plays against mainly second teamers.
It is too early to make any major assessments, but it is encouraging when the high drafted rookies look like they aren't completely out of place early. Both of our teams have to be fairly happy with our high picks so far. hill dropped one, and it always seems to take longer for a young WR to get comfortable. But if he can get behind the secondary 3 or 4 times for big gains in the first 6 or 7 weeks (ala BE a couple years ago), that will open things up and teams won't be able to stack the box like they do now. ...Plus sanchez needs to work up the gumption to actually throw to the receivers down field once in a while rather than always throwing the quick check down pass.
I remember saying the same thing when Wilkerson got a sack and safety against the Jags in week 2 or 3 I believe. All it takes is one to make him a better player than Gholston ever was. Incredible.
It just wasn't one play, but he was consistently getting pressure. I don't judge on the first preseason game but im glad he's making an impact early
When he was with the 1s he looked like he was lazy and taking plays off. I remember the sideline play where he could have pushed guy out of bounds and BGE cut back in and got 3 more yards. After that play he was a beast and did great against 2s and 3s. I was just worried about that play in the beginning of game and he looked dead tired in 3rd qrt. So Lets hope he can play a whole game.
He's already shown far more than Gholston ever did, which really isn't saying much, but it is what it is.
I'll say the same thing I said about Chandler Jones' performance, let's not put him in Canton just yet. Kid looked better than I expected him to last night though.
coples is right on track. got off the ball quick. very explosive. in his first professional game he seemed a bit excited but once he got into his groove he was dominating. that strip sack he had was beastly. its funny how much people will count performance against the twos when it is a guy they want to succeed vs a guy they apparently want to label a bust. these are all nfl players out there, and the kid is a rookie. he looks very promising.
I was very impressed with Coples. I thought he was a bust when we picked him in the draft, but he looked good last night. However Bart scott looked OLD, he couldn't cover a $5 check much less a TE going across the middle.
he definitely looked better than i had expected and i still expected him to have a good year. hes got great instincts, love that he bats passes. this just makes me more confident he will be huge for us on d.
yeh im afraid all of that talk was just hot air from ryan cause he likes him so much. davis looked decent enough i think we can see him start to take some of barts snaps. he got to the ball a lot, which is something we need in a lb.
