First, let me say I am brand new here, and really quite honestly not trolling your site. I figure as the first AFL team to win a Super Bowl, you guys deserve respect from the get go. That being said, I do have some questions of the Jet faithful about the team as a whole, since we seem to meet up from time to time, and will do so again this year. So, here are my questions, and really they are seriously not trolls. 1. Is Chad your guy from a fan point of view. I know that the Raiders have issues at QB, and most want Collins gone. If Chad is not your guy, who is? 2. Do you want Abraham, or are you wanting to see the trade rumors fulfilled? 3. How much do you see your RB stud having left in his tank? 4. did you interpret the comments of your former coach after the Panther game as him quitting on the team, or protecting the players? 5. D or O in the draft, primarily? Like I said, these are not troll questions, let's face it, my team is going through it's share of problems, but we did meet up in the playoffs not too long ago, and it would be nice to see old AFL rivals get to the playoffs again. Thanks Att
I am a big Chad fan,so i'm really hoping he's here and shows everybody who doubted him up. I think we need Abe,but he talks too much. He did play a full season,so maybe he does deserve what he wants now. IMO,Curtis is done as a #1 and drafting a top RB should be priority. I supported Herm most of his time here. I gave up on him this year because of his comments on letting Curtis get his record. IMO,with a lost season, younger guys should be tried and tested as to see what we have and not waste draft picks. Herm was stuck in a poularity contest at the cost of the future of the Jets. Good riddance to him
No need to worry - there's nothing troll-like about your questions! I think most fans would hope Chad can still be the guy, but fear tha he will never fully recover. Many want Cutler in the draft. Most fans have had enough of Abe, but he did stay healthy last season. I think he will be traded and most Jets fans will be happy to see him go. Personally, I think he is a great player and would like to see him stay. With cap situation now sorted out the Jets can afford him. Curtis has something left in the tank if he gets a decent O-line in front of him. If the line is poor next year he will struggle again because he's not as elusive as he used to be. Herm totally lost the plot last season. The entire staff did a poor job. The injuries were brutal, but the play-calling was often worse than brutal, and the stubborn way they kept pounding Curtis into the line when they knew he was injured spoke volumes for their lack of imagination. Hopefully O in the draft primarily. A big nose tackle might be needed, however, but I hope for a lot of offensive linemen. Just my thoughts, others will weigh in with theirs...
1) I would love to see Chad come back and play. He has heart and gives his all for the team. BUT, I am a realist, and know it will be difficult for him to do so. The Jets need insurance. Get a vet in here short term and draft a young QB in the next 2 years. Have all 3 compete for the job. 2) No. I am done with Abe. Injuries and attitude have decreased his value to this team. He has said he does not want to be here, and it is bad for the team to keep a player with that attitude around. I say he is heading for Detroit. 3) Martin just restructured and took a pay cut. At minimum he is going to retire here and be a back-up, ala Bettis. Blaylock and the young rookie Houston might be servicable for a year. But the Jets need to draft a young stud RB within the next 2 years. 4) It is a long story and most details can be found in past newspaper articles. But in short Herm did not want to be here, but in KC. At minimum he was a malcontent in the organization at the end, at most he orchestrated is move to KC. Either way he did not want to be here, and the Jets had to move on. HOWEVER, I don't think he quite on the players, but I think he quite on the organization. 5) OFFENSE! OFFENSE! OFFENSE! For the past several years most the Jets top draft picks have gone into the defense. The offense needs young talent and fast. The O-Line is horrible, needing a G, C, RT, possibly LT, and depth. QB, RB, FB, WR (possibly 2) all have holes to fill. Offense all the way. By the way, welcome to the board! Hope you like it! We have a few fans from other teams that contribute to this board, feel free to stick around. Hope I helped you some, granted these are only my opinions, but still.
What about Chad makes you a fan of his? Again, not a troll, I just know that NY has had QB issues for a while now, and since the days of Vinnie and the Jets, there has been some issue here. I dont get much of the Abraham talk out here in TN, but I know that they have said he is a locker room issue (like my own Woodson who is soon to be gone, thank goodness). So, Martin finds a new roll on the team, who would be your wish list at your pick for RB if Martin is gone?
Hi Hi, welcome to the site. You will probably get a hundred different answers to each of your questions on this site. Not many people agree on much here. Except we all love the Jets. So here we go. 1. I like Chad alot, and I would love to see him come back and do well for a number of reasons. First we wouldn't have to draft a QB high up in the draft. Secondly he seems like such a nice guy and you like nice guys to do well in the NFL since there are so many pieces of crap T.O. If Chad can't come back though from an injury stand point or won't re-structure then I say we have to cut him and move on. I would love to draft Leinart but that would take alot to move up. If we go the F.A. route then Kitna would be a good route to go. I've been hearing though, that many vet QB's don't really want to come here because we are rebuilding. 2. I would keep Abe, for some reason alot of people around here don't want him. If we change our def. scheme and he doesn't fit then lets see what we can get for him. If he doesn't want to be here and it seems he doesn't then lets trade his ass and hope for a first round pick in return. 3. This one is a hard question. CMart is getting old, but our O-line was so hurt and horrible last year it's hard to know if age is catching up with him or was nagging injuries holding him back or the o-line problem. With all the f.a. running backs this year I don't think we need to draft one too early, but alot of people here like DeAngelo and Lendale so who knows. I don't think we will draft either one of those guys with the fourth pick. So unless we trade down or get an extra first round pick for Abe I don't think we will go that route. 4. Now that Herm is gone I don't think people care one way or the other. Alot of people including myself are real excited that Mangini is here. He seems to have a goal and is going for it, media be damned. He looks like he is going to play the best player regardless of what vet is here. I think in a few years we are going to have one hell of a team and coach. 5. Answer this one correct and you should play the lotto. If I were the GM and Abe is traded and Chad doesn't come back. I take a QB and DE in the first round. Then I take O-line in the second. And for the rest of the draft I take BPA because we need help at almost every position. Hope I answered your questions. I will get ripped by someone out there that doesn't like my answers:grin: But on a whole most fans in here are pretty nice if you don't write stupid stuff. Good luck next year, and if we meet up again in the playoffs I hope we beat your ass.
1. I dont really see Chad as our guy. Hes been good but i think its time to move on. I was hoping to sign Kitna and Draft Cutler and Kitna would start. 2. I want Abe trade we could get a nice 1st rounder for him and we dont have the money to pay him the long term deal he wants. 3. I think he has maybe a season left in his tank after that he should take a Marshall Faulk role and well draft a running back to start next year. 4. I wouldnt say quitting Herm was a good motivator and never quit on the Jets. Hes just the right guy right now for our situation. 5. In the draft i say we have to go strictly O. the only hole we really have on D is NT which we can fill through free agency and if we go 3-4 were gonna need someone to play the other linebacker along side Vilma Barton and Hobson.
1. I am a fan of Chad and I believe, in the end, he will be our guy come the beginning of the season. He'll probably make close to veteran minimum with no incentives with any other team, so he will try his hardest to remain signed with the team because this is basically the only place where he'll make good $$$. And that's completely disregarding his loyalty to this franchise as well... 2. I'm in favor of getting rid of Abraham not because I don't like him, but because of his cap burden. He wants out at this point so it's best to show him the door anyway, and at least get something for him as well. 3. I don't think we saw the real Curtis last season-he was hurt and tried too hard to bring the team out of the dumps. He's probably not in the elite group of RB's anymore, but I can still see him getting over 1200 yards next season if we get an OL who can do a somewhat decent job of run blocking. 4. To tell you the truth, I'd rather not talk about anything particular with Herm. I liked the guy originally, but I feel like he backstabbed this franchise by wanting out like that. He basically lied to all of our faces when he said he'd be the coach of our team this coming year and then bolted a week later. 5. O, for the most part. I'm not sure what our D-scheme is going to be next year, but at least we have a decent defense. Our O was attrocious last year and needs improvement at most positions. If we draft any D, it'll probably be a big, run stopping DT to plug up the hole so Vilma will be able to do his thing (regardless of whether we go 3-4 or 4-3). If we go 3-4, we may need another LB as well, and if we trade down a few spots from 4 we could get AJ Hawk, but I don't think that really makes enough sense at this point-the O is our main priority (especially the OL). EDIT: to add on to #1, Chad's our guy for next season at least, but I don't know about the future. If we draft Cutler or trade up for Leinart, we know whose hands the team is passing the offense's into.
At least for me, I am a Penny fan and hopeful for a couple reasons. He has always been extremely loyal to the franchise. He has a huge work ethic and heart on the field, even at times playing seriously hurt because the team needed him to. Even though he never had a strong arm, he is very smart and accurate. Penny always played with passion and left it all on the field every week, and it is sad how things have turned out. But I think the writing is on the wall and he will never return to prime form. It is dissappointing.
After Bush as my first choice,i'm not really sure. Since 03,Chad has been injured in one way or another. I guess it is safe to say he is injury prone and imo it's due to his mollases like movement in the pocket. I do also think that when 100% healthy,he is capable of returning to his 02 form. I like his leadership and ability to get the team to rally around him. With Abe,this time around it's not really all his fault. He did play a full season and deserves to either get his contract or be let go. He did piss me off last season with sitting out of the playoffs when he was cleared to play. I just hate players that are not team players. These kind of ass----- are what is ruining pro sports. Everybody could learn a thing or 2 from Curtis,Vinnie or Chrebet.
1. I have personally given up on Chad. I was optimistic going into last season, and well, you know what happened. I'm not putting myself through another offseason of that. He's entering his 7th year and still hasn't started a full 16 game schedule. Fully healthy, I believe he could be a top 10 QB. But I just highly doubt he'll ever be fully healthy again. Its time for us to move on. 2. I would love to see Abe stay here with a long term deal, but I know it isn't happening. That said, I'm warming up to the idea of dealing him. If we could get a first rounder 15 or higher I'm with it, reluctantly. If it were up to me he'd be a Jet next season. He was really our only source of pass rush last year. 3. Curtis Martin's age combined with his injury leave me doubting that he can be counted on as a starter anymore. I know people will point to his 2004 season to defend that he's still got something left in the tank, but we see it happen all the time where RBs just fall off completely. We need to move on now, instead of riding him until he falls apart, as we've been guilty of doing with some other veterans in the past. 4. No comment on Herm. Sorry, but I am really done talking about him. 5. Our D isn't great right now, but our offense is horrible. Possibly the worst in the league in terms of pure talent. We need to come out of the first day with at least 2 O-linemen and one other skill position player. The D has a few things in place, but the offense is at a complete loss right now. Hope that helped a little, and welcome to the board. Woah, talking civil with a Raiders fan. Who'da thunk?
Ya, who'da thunk it. Most Raider fans are accused of having large foreheads and lots of bone between the ears. Now, I won't deny it is true sometimes, but I like to think Im a fan of the team, and of the sport in general. Interesting comments. We have similar views on our boards, but argue about them all the time. Woodson is our Abraham, and we have gotten to the point where we would just as soon see him gone. I like Martin though. He would have made a fine Raider (J/K, we dont know how to coach a RB). I understand about some of you not wanting to comment on Herm. We had a coach or two I deny ever existed as well...coughbuglecough. I do remember the day after the Panther game when Mike and Mike were commenting on his post game press conference, and found it interesting. My view? Your guy made himself out to look stupid. I remembered that famous "You play to win the game" speech and admiring it. Then he tells everyone that he was not going to put his D on the field again by trying to score late in the game. Rubbed me wrong. OK, since your team is in media central, I am kind of curious about the whole Namath wanting to kiss the interviewer thing. that must have been a riot to some of you> I thought it was classic Namath (not a slam, I have an autographed full sized Namath helmet in my den with all of my memorabilia) Thanks for the welcome, I hope to become an honored enemy here, and plan to stick around, with your permission Att
welcome aboard Raider fan..:drunk: i like chad, but hes over with, abe is gone, curtis has 1 good year left, read my signature if you want to know what i think about herm, and our D is the shit, but our offense is shit.
First off welcome to the board, I think you'll find there are alot of knowledgable posters here and as long as you respect peoples opinions you'll be treated with that same respect. There are a couple of idiots and once you figure out who they are the ignore button works well..... I think you'll find majority of the people here really like Chad myself included, unforunately it's a business and if the guy is unable to produce the team needs to go in a different direction. Chad may lack the physical capabilties of a top flight QB but he is a winner and has tremendous heart which is why this is a tough time for the team and it's fans. Chad is a very likeable guy and it's hard to think of him not being a Jet. Honestly I want Abe, I'm in the minority but I think the defense struggles w/o him on the field. With the Jets getting under the cap Abe could sign the tender and we would be ok. The issue is I don't think he wants to be here. IMO he is one of the elite DE's in the league and should be paid like one. The guy produces and yes durabilty is a concern but I think the guy needs to get paid if not by the Jets somebody will pay him. As far as Curtis I think 2004 was an abiration and was because the guy was pounded. With a more synamic passing attack Curtis doesn't rush for 1700 yards that year. I think last year was the wall season for C-Mart. I love his team attitude and when the guy goes into Canton I'll be there because he is one of the classiest guys in the league. Curtis will be back in a much lesser capacity. Herm Edwards is scum, he always was a little weasel and his true colors showed this season. As a fan of a team in the AFC West I'd be glad he was there because if there is one thing you'll get from an Edwards coached team is predictabilty. The guy took a talented team and allowed them to dwindle into mediocrity. His knowledge of game situations was a joke and his stubburness is what ultimatley caused injuries to many players last season. His cliches wore old with me and his abiliyt to have the team stop playing hard when they were ahead is enough to make you go crazy. In the draft we need a bit of both, we need playmakers on both sides of the ball. I trust in what Mangini is doing as he seems to have some direction and a plan, something this franchise has lacked since Parcells left.
Nice evaluation. I am concerned about every AFC W team, but the Chiefs are getting old in some significant positions, and are still trying to find a defense, so I am sure they have missed their window, and will start declining soon.
BAH! I won't have it. Declare yourself, Attyla. Which type of Radier fan are you - Roadwarrior, Pirate, Transvestite, Sexual Submissive, or Smogmonster? Once we get past such threshold questions, I'll talk football.
1. I would love to see Chad come back, but 2 rotator cuff surgeries is pretty devistating. Hopefully Young will fall to us, if not we should draft Cutler or Croyle. 2. Abe is a great DE when healthy. I would like to see him stay, but he still has durability questions and commands a lot of money. If we can get seom high draft picks for him, we should pull the trigger. 3. We need a RB. Curtis is a HOF'er, but he will retire in the next couple of years. He's a class act and won't be upset if we draft his successor. 4. I missed those comments, but it was time for a change. 5. Offense is a must. If we draft defense in the first round (or even second round) then I worry about our future.
