No matter how you feel about the coaching staff or Mangini as a head coach, Mangini and Mike T deserve a ton of credit for significantly upgrading the talent on this team from last year. The upgrade in talent from one season to the next is as impressive as I have ever seen. Their drafting has been excellent, I'm reserving judgement on Gholston right now but even if he does bust their draft record is impressive. We already got 5 legit stars out of their drafts in Dbrick, Mangold, Washington, Revis and Harris. Every offseason move has fit their vision for the team perfectly, have we ever seen that before? Forgetting about the more talked about moves that have worked out like Farve, Faneca, Pace & Jenkins, how about the signings of Woody and Richardson, they both have been huge factors in the success of the running game, Richardson is a freaking animal in the run game, can't catch the ball but who cares when he blocks the way he does. Jets have a chance at something special this year, now hopefully Mangini the HC can get all this talent to play consistently as good as they are capable of playing they very well may achieve something special. This week in NE is such a key game, I really think if they take control of the division this week they build on it and don't look back the rest of the season and possibly end up with a bye in the first round. I know I'm getting ahead of myself, take care of NE in 4 days and go from there.
I credit Tannembaum for most of the moves, and it's good to see that he's starting to grow some balls and make big moves like this offseason that can pay off massively like this year has.
What they did this offseason in FA and through trades has been unbelievable. When do you see teams pick up that many players and have bascally all of them live up to expectations? They did an amazing job.
Yep. Too bad they didn't draft Flacco instead of the Ghost..That's the only blemish I can see so far.
i cant remember seeing so many positive threads on the front page before. its a good time to be a jets fan. KILL THE PATS!!! oh and i agree about the front office. if it ever comes to a point where a coaching change is needed i would hope that tanny stays with the team. he has done a great job bringing in talent for this team since he took over.
I credit Tannenbaum, Cohen, Mangini, and the removal of Terry Bradway from the FO. Great moves this year.
Actually I have to give some credit to Murrell and a couple of other posters for wanting Flacco from the mid-seasdon on last year. He looks great so far.
The credit goes to Johnson, not Tannenbaum or Mangini and he only did it to sell PSLs. See how many of these people are still around after that has been completed. Pretty obvious when you go from spending nothing for years to spending a fortune in one off season that there is something else involved.
I'm not sure I like Gholston either, but I think they were prepared for a project player in Gholston as they picked up Pace to start ahead of him. We'll see how it turns out, but it's not looking good so far. I was mainly talking about the FA and trade action we made this year.
They also got Keller in the first round, so it's not like we got nothing out of it, even if Gholston doesn't pan out.
Call me when we start beating real teams... struggling against the Chiefs... blowing out a suck team like the Rams, losing to the RAIDERS!!!?? Blah, blah, blah... I'll give credit when we heft that Lombardi around the stadium drunk off Jets kool-aid. We ain't done crap yet. Hopefully we can knock out the Pats this week. We do that and I'll start being ready to smile.
Gholston, so far, has established major bust potential. To draft somebody at #6 and have them be completely non-productive is just extremely bad luck. I know it has happened to other teams and it has certainly happened to us in our past. I haven't given up on VG yet, but I don't know, there should have been some kind of showing by now; a glimmer; something.
that right Don, because after the PSL are sold, those mult-year contracts that the FAs have and the stars that Mangini have drafted all go away... its was one big conspiracy to sell sell sell... good to see you have your ear to the ground.
I liked the Keller pick a lot and have been very unthusiastic for him. He's doing well and it seems he's improving every week. He's such a mismatch split wide with a corner or safety on him. Great combo of speed and size, once he truly gets his concentration and hands, he will be a lethal weapon.
I have a hard time crediting one without the other. Tannembaum has been in football a long time, but was not a football guy to start. A very good cap mind. Mangini has been in football a long time and has work with some of the best football minds in the Biz. Working on a daily basis with Parcells and BB was a huge help in his learning process. Both men have said before its a team effort. It works well because they want to work togeather and make things happen. A very symbiotic relationship as far as a coach and GM go.
Some of the credit has to go to the new guy, Cohen, who worked for Philly before we hired him. This offseason we saw a significant change in player acquisition philosophy when Bradway left Hempstead and Cohen came in as Asst. GM. I don't think it's a coincidence that we stopped going after JAGs and nobodies in FA and in trades, but actually went after impact players the same year TB is ousted from the FO.
that proves to me even more that the culture has changed in the organization. I don't feel that this is the same franchise pre-Parcells.
No doubt that Cohen deserves some credit. This front office group as a whole is doing a great job of targeting areas of need and filling them. OL, and true NT, a starting RB, a shut down corner, and pass rushing OLB's. Transformation to a sucessful 34 defense and power running game looks to be well under way, if not complete. Now we need to continue to upgrade parts and add depth and potential. Things are looking up in Jetsville.
