I'm going with my last years wish again this season. I HOPE we at least have at least one meaningful game in December. That shouldn't be a lot to ask...right? I really hope we make the playoffs. Lets remember that there is an extra wildcard team this season. So even if were like 3-7 I'll end up hoping for some supernatural win steak. Also hope that Quinnen starts becoming the beast we all hope he will. In fact, I hope he breaks out on Sunday against the Bills. How fun would that be? But at the minimum, please, not another "the season is over by Halloween" crap year.
1. Austin establishes himself as a starting CB. 2. Mims showing some flashes during the second half. 3. The OL becomes a respectable unit as the season progresses. 4. Sam plays well enough to make us forget about taking Lawrence, Fields or Lance. 5. The skill position group outperforms expectations. 6. We know for sure if Gase should return in 2021. 7. Jamal Adams gets embarrassed in some manner when we play the Seahawks. 8. Quinnen Williams shuts me up about preferring Josh Allen with that pick. I'm not asking for too much am I.
Darnold proves he’s a franchise QB The OL becomes a solid unit by mid-season Mims gets the game down quickly shows flashes of dominance Maye steps up as a leader/playmaker and makes us forget about Adams Dominant run defense with someone emerging as an actual threat to the QB
The bold is my hope. I just want to watch competitive football. If we're .500ish and in the wild card hunt by Thanksgiving then I'll be somewhat happy with the way the season went. We're all over the country in terms of scheduling. BUT we are a bit saved from what are normally really tough road games in terms of going into Buffalo, Seattle and Kansas City because of rabid crowds. Indianapolis in the dome is a tough road game as far as crowd noise is concerned.
This. Everything else is secondary. If you give me only one thing to hope for this it, because everything else should sort itself out in time if the Jets have this.
Steady improvement and signs of a Sam being the QB we all dream of him becoming. And then a top draft to back it all up. WR, EDGE, WR, CB, OL
Darnold stays healthy the entire season and puts up top 15 type stats. If he can do that with better weapons he could progress into a top 10 QB,
Sam Darnold hits his potential as does Q Williams At least a winning season and everyone drafted/signed up by Douglas pans out. Plus, JD puts his pants on and either extends Gase or shows him the door.
I see a lot of people down on what they consider a lack of key talent on the Jets. But I gotta say every day the season gets closer I'm becoming more of a lightsider. We actually do have a lot to be excited about this season. I just watched some guy on Youtube spend an hour breaking down our offense from last season. As bad as we were when we we were bad - we were so close to turning a corner. It all came down to a horrible offensive line. And even then it was rarely more than one linemen at a time breaking down. We have upgraded our lines depth and talent considerably. We even drafted it at #1. Our offense is going to be magnitudes better and here's why: 1. Sam is going to be able to finally develop and break out. When you look at last season Sam played great when he could trust the line even just a little bit. Yes when its a continual jailbreak he gets happy feet. So does Tom Brady. But when he had just a half second longer he starts playing great. There were plenty of plays to back that up. What is sad is how hard it was last year to get him more than 1 second before pressure arrived. We will for sure get him more time this year. Based on what I saw from last season, he is going to tear it up! 2. Run blocking was a joke last season. It didn't exist. It will this year. Cant wait to see the rook Bacton develop here either. He is going to be like have a freihgt train in front on sweeps. Better run game = better overall offense. This will also take a lot of heat off of Sam and open up the playbook more. Seriously, on 3rd and 3 last season how many teams worried about us running the ball? Our excitement in the running game had nowhere to go but up - and it went up. I think its going to be pretty exciting to see green busting through the lines for big gains again. 3 Our receivers are better than last year. Everyone is whining about how weak we are but that doesn't seem to be the actual case...at least yet. Perriman had the same stats as Anderson last season, in about a quarter of the play time. And I'm not sure losing the deep threat with Robbie is all that important. Especially since Robbie had a 15 ypc average last year and Perriman had a 17.6 ypc. Plus, in his third season he is ready for a break out year. We know Crowder is a great possession guy and oh ya, we got Mims, and Herndons back at TE. Our depth might be a little shaky but going in it appears we could do some serious damage. Sam with extra time - don't count the passing game out. 4. Our defense is going to be fine, or at least as fine as last season. Up front I look for us to improve. Linebacking is about the same. The loss of Adams is the only ding in the offseason. But to be honest I still cant believe we got McDuogald as part of the deal. He is an above average safety and a great fill for Adams spot. In fact, it improves our pass defense which is important because...our CBs are the most suspect thing on the team. There is no denying that. That could be problematic. However, I have faith that Williams will have a game plan and preparation each week to keep the games close. Seriously we have a lot to be excited for right now. Expect to see a lot more points scored by us this season. I feel like 10-6 is within our grasp if we are coached well and continue to develop as the season goes.
Darnold improves (continues to improve) he did get better from year 1 to year 2. I want to see a more significant jump this year Fewer injuries More disciplined play. Fewer penalties A more competitive team that looks closer than what we thought going into the season. And maybe that's a 5-11, 6-10 or 7-9 record (schedule is tough) but I want to see the Jets go toe to toe with the NFL's best. They can finish at the same level as last year or slightly worse...but I want to get a feel that they're getting better and moving in the right direction. Herndon emerging as a top pass catching TE At the very least an average offensive line. Decent corner play. Somehow piece it together there
Clarity. My biggest fear is we're still asking the same questions after this season that we were asking this off season. Good, bad, or ugly I hope we get concrete answers on Darnold, Gase, the offense, and this teams identity going forward.
This will sound corny, but I just want to like the team I love. I want to see chemistry. Lights coming on. Units clicking. Guys knowing their roles. Players and coaches trusting each other, and living up to that trust. If this starts to happen, the wins will come. Then the culture begins to grow, and the wins stack up. Soon enough it gains a strange and beautiful momentum. That's what builds a champion.
Nothing totally nothing another losing season coming up IMHO, It amazes me that so many of U waste your precious time on this earth posting about them. You would all be better off improving yourself then posting about the NYJs JMHO
Yes absolutely. I recommend the board all take a year's sabbatical to seek enlightenment in the foothills of the Himalayas before posting on here again.
