"run first" teams generally run the ball on first down. crazy i know. seriously, complaining about 2nd and long... that's a new one for me.
...maybe if the run is "working", but when you can't average 3 yds on first you're putting extra pressure on the kid...wasn't complaining; making a football point..which you failed to grasp...
yawn, petty insult. here's a football point you failed to grasp Rushing (YPG) 1. New York Jets 164.1 2. Tennessee Titans 162.6 3. Carolina Panthers 148.1 4. Miami Dolphins 148.0 5. New Orleans Saints 133.6 mayhaps, and i'm just guessing here, this is why we run the ball on first a lot?!!?
..well you threw the 1st petty shot....yes you, me & every defensive cor. in the league realizes it too...so if they are bringing 8/9 into the box on 1st down, Shotty needs to mix in the play-action on 1st down....the TD pass to Edwards was when Altanta brought 9 up on the 1st down....
I agree. Nothing is as good as mixing it up and keeping them guessing. Throwing the bomb on 1st down once in a while will do that for sure.
is it just me or are our pass patterns pretty unoriginal? no crossing or imaginive patterns to get cotch edwards keller open??? when you watch it on TV its not obvisious, but when im at the game i never see anything special from our routes thus all the sanchez interceptions
I was watching the game sunday with a friend who happens to be a Giants fan. I turned to him before the game and said just watch the play calling from Schotty. Hand off to TJ from the back field in I formation on EVERY first down. Very frustrating indeed.
No defense fears the Jet pass attack so Ds focus on stopping the run. Sanchez needs to start making plays to his receivers to keep opposing defenses honest. If he can throw on first down and move the chains that would be great, so far Sanchez hasn't been able to do that however. So we are relying on the run game.
there is no way to pass to a streaking wr who does not have seperation. there is no way to pass to a wr who cuts behind the defenders in zone.
I've been on the tail of Brian Schottenheimer for some time (my hate for him didn't develop overnight this season. Look for my posts last year) and this was one of the main reason. To Brian, the only pass patterns available are deep post and fly. No such things as: skinny post, quick out, drag, zig, slant, hook, comeback, crossing or whatnot. No fucking wonder this team suffers from mid-range passes (8-15 yard passes) and this type of passes are what moves the chains during the course of the game. Watch how the Giants deploy their TEs, and watch how Keller is deployed. It will make you sigh.
I am fine w/ rushing a majority of the 1st down plays BUT if a pattern develops in a game where the opp. is stopping the run consistently on that 1st play and playing 8/9 man fronts, then call some high-percentage pass plays to get the defense to be honest......
So we run twice as much on first down than pass. I really don't see any problem with that. We have the best rushing attack in the league and a rookie QB. I don't like Schotty, but a 2/1 run to pass ratio on first down with this team seems pretty good to me.
I don't either (if it is working), but when Jones is consistently getting stuffed at the line/backfield because the defense is putting 8/9 guys in the box, then it really isn't very productive...
I think as Sanchez progresses and has more authority to check out of plays at the line of scrimmage he will probably be checking to pass more when there is a 9 man front. It's a difficult situation right now with Sanchez struggling to protect the football.
Good point. It's not like the CAPABILITY of the Jets' rushing attack REQUIRES that they run on first down. What else goes into the mix is that Sanchez is not audibling at the line (most probably because the Jets do not want him to try that) and also in general they are trying to cut down on Sanchez's interceptions.
We have seen him audible at the LOS but I wonder if he only has that authority in certain situations. It's probably linked to the color code system. Red Light = No Audibles Kid. That's my guess.
