From newyorkjets.com To paraphrase Coles in the press conference video he says that the coaching staff set them up to be successful, at least offensively, and it's really on the players to man up and say if they executed or not. I was just surprised to hear Coles come out in the coaching staff's defense... And from Penny... "I discussed it with Eric [Mangini] and I felt like with six minutes left in the game and down 31-14 and having to dropback every play, knowing they're going to rush the passer and probably blitz, that it wasn't good for our team and it wasn't good for me," Pennington said. "And that's the first time I've ever done that, and so it was just a very hard, difficult discussion and decision to make." I just can't see how people can disrespect him. He may not have the greatest arm, but he does everything he can to help the Jets win.
Does not sound good. Chad must really be hurt bad. This feels a bit like '99 when Vinny's ankle crumpled in Week 1.
Except that in '99 we thought Vinny was gonna lead us to a superbowl. This is more like Vinny three years later.
Chad is better than Clemens. He's also not a QB you want to build around for a Super Bowl run in a few years. He's got some physical deficits and he's injury prone. Now Clemens may not be the guy you want to build around either. But you damn well better know that going into next year's draft because good QB's do not go free agent every year. In fact most years there is not one available. When a team is rebuilding it needs to do its business and rebuild. Chad is no more appropriate a QB for this team than Curtis was a RB in 2005.
I'll admit I want to see Clemens, but not really this way. Even if it is just a sprain, it could be bad as sprains get MUCH worse the next day. The injury looked really bad in slo-mo. I will be surprised if there is not a break or ligament damage. Chad was a warrior coming back today.
Gotta love the heart from those Marshall QBs. Given the opportunity he would have had the o-line carrying him down the field after a long completeion.
Chad is a much better quarterback than Clemens at the moment, and he shows it in his leadership skills as well. The team needs him, to be successful at the moment.
All the leadership skills in the world will not save us from this crappy defense. Chad's injury sounds like it will cost him at least a few starts, and to be honest, we are probably better off just giving Clemens the job for the year as a result. If Chad's out for a month and Clemens shows something in that month, it just doesn't really make sense to give the job back to Chad. This team needs a true NT, two DEs, an upgrade for ILB and probably one OLB (I'm okay with Thomas), an LG, RG and RT, and to be honest probably an LT too unless that LG is a stud so that Brick can atleast be serviceable (don't hold your breath). You might as well see what you have at QB with all those problems. How the hell do you fix all that in one draft anyway? Maybe we can take care of NT, but we are going to need to sign some impact FAs. Enough with guarding the purse strings, there is no trophy for managing the salary cap.
Chad is still better than Clemens but the gap is closing AND Clemens has more upside because he's younger and more inexperienced. Chad is what he is. What you see is what you get. Clemens may or may not be the answer but we'll never know until he actually gets to play in some real games.
Not by much? Chad Pennington is closer to Peyton Manning than Kellen Clemens is to Chad Pennington. (and Chad Pennington is not even CLOSE to Peyton Manning) Now I am not happy he pulled HIMSELF out. If the coaches did it, fine, but if he did it...... That just doesn't sit right.
