Ok with the release of Kerry Rhodes we chose to pick up Poole to replace him. Who do you think is better, Poole or Rhodes? namee some of the pros an cons of each player. which playerr has more upside? Give me an overall sense of each players skill sets an to ultimatly who is the better player.
Poole like to tackle- gets multiple concussions. Rhodes likes keeping his face pretty and avoids contact at all costs, celebrates via the prancing pony while the play is still live, was run over by Wes Welker, and was chased down by a white fullback.
I don't know much about Poole other than he's a hard hitter/good tackler and has reportedly had 4 concussions already in his 5 year. He's also spent time starting at corner for the Browns when they had injuries, so his coverage must be at least average. I would have preferred to have given Rhodes another year to get his head straight in this system, but after reading his parting words he can go suck a prick.
I think the key difference between them is that Pool is a Jet and Rhodes is not. Any further discussion is irrelevant at this point.
I think the defense will be better off with Pool because of the intensity that he'll bring, which Rhodes did not. However, any time Pool makes a hit I'm going to be holding my breath, hoping it wasn't his last.
Something I've been finding really amusing is how people are saying they're going to be scared every time he goes to hit someone. You say that now, but during games you won't even be thinking about it. Did you hold your breath every time someone came near Chrebet or Coles? It's probably more likely an offensive player suffers a concussion than a defensive player but I don't have any numbers to verify or dispute that. Logically though, it would be reasonable to assume a receiver is more at risk for a concussion because his job involves focused attention on an inanimate object while being blindsided by someone whose job involves focus on him. I'm as concerned for Pool as I was for Chrebet and Coles. I hope he doesn't get hurt, but I'm not going to waste time worrying about it unless I'm given a reason to worry. I'm sure he's aware of the risks to his health.
Alio, yes that seems about right to me too. However since the guy already has 4 concussions, it seems that he's got an inclination to them. If he doesn't get up right away after a collision, you bet I'll be holding my breath a bit.
Every player is one tackle from retirement, and having previously suffered concussions does not make someone more likely to suffer another; it may be that there's something in their playing style that increases their chances of head injury, and obviously repeated head trauma is not something that is to be encouraged, but serious injury is always a risk in football and I wouldn't worry too much about it happening to a particular player simply because it has happened to them before.
I'll assume that you're just some worthless troll, since even the most casual know-nothing Jets fan knows how to spell Wayne Chrebet's name correctly.
Nope. I pretty much agree with everything Alio wrote here. WR's are more susceptible to concussions than defensive players. I know with a player like Poole it's mostly instinctive, but I think Thurman can teach Poole how to better protect himself when going for those monster hits in open space and when to just wrap up. As to the bolded part, I remember holding my breath a few times for Chrebet and Coles. If I recall correctly, a few years back Coles got a nasty hit on a jump ball or as he was coming down on a pass from Chad (I believe) against the Dolphins. He looked dead. Also on Chrebet's last concussion against the Chargers with Bolls as QB. That was rough to watch. Nowadays, I see myself holding my breath when Sanchez throws a 50-60 yd bomb to Braylon. At times, I've had to literally look away. It's really scary I tell ya.
Are you sure? I think it's a given that a subsequent concussion is a bad thing as they can have a cumulative effect, but I wasn't aware that one made you any more prone to the next. I'm no medical expert, mind you.
Rhodes is better in coverage and has better overall awareness. Poole, closer to the safety in the box mold. a factor in run defense, avg coverage skills (from what I remember) the guy obviously isnt afraid to hit. theres three ways you get concussions 1. you get lit up 2. poor technique 3.you just annhiliated someone to the point your own brain turned itself off number 3 usually only happens with a mixture of number 2. I remember one of his concussions was just him laying a textbook mouthsmacker and he put himself out. although I'm pretty sure I've seen him lead head first into someones chest on one of them. thats a recipe for paralysis Overall:Rhodes mentality and lack of on field agression doesnt fit this scheme or locker room. Poole is a bring your lunch bucket and go to work type. a stop gap- but a pretty good one for now; long as he can stay conscious
Better overall awareness in 2007 perhaps? The guy has played in a complete fog for the past few seasons. Don't try and count those picks that landed in his lap last year.
