My real want would be moving up all the way up and swinging at the QB again, but 1) that was unrealistic and 2) there is no chance JD could ever sell that to Woody after we just missed on Sam as 3 and Zach at 2.
Absolutely no Lamar Jackson... 1). durability concern 2). two first round picks 3). enormous contract (see #1)
I'd love Lamar, but I don't see it happening for several reasons. I voted Jimmy G and in that event I'd also like to re-sign Mike White. They could alternate starting and rehabbing injuries.
Voted Lamar. If no Lamar then it’s time to face the fact that we’ll just be riding out the season and starting over fresh in 2024. At some point we’ll have to live with the fact that we let our most realistic option (Carr) walk away while Woody chased his unicorn Yes it is. It’s a terrible idea.
Tannehill is experienced, reasonably priced and does not require a long term commitment, which still keeps Zach in play down the road. Lamar is also a natural choice, but if you strike out with Rodgers, do you really want to take the chance of doing the same with Lamar? It would take the Jets a while to live down those two back to back whiffs.
Might as well run it back with Zach and Mike. The other non-Rodgers options suck as well, so might as well continuing to develop the subpar options we know rather than shell out some serious money to Jimmy G or Tannehill and watch them come in here and flounder their way to missing out on the playoffs yet again.
Minshew or Tannehill, no Jimmy G or Baker they might just play 3 games and be injured so what’s the point
Call me crazy, but I like Mayfield. he has performed pretty well when healthy. Still young enough to have some upside. And he has attitude and moxie. obviously won’t break the bank or cost picks.
Lamar just isn’t an option so I’m not going to count that. So with that being said, I truly don’t care. Every single person left makes us a fringe wildcard team with a second round ceiling. Any other year I would say sign me up but then when you go into an off-season with above average to great quarterbacks available anything else is a failure. The only saving grace is that we could sign a stopgap and develop someone. Then again have we ever developed anyone?
Try to snag Mills or Ridder. Both have the potential to play as well as the journeymen mentioned and only cost a million a year. We could keep building and if lucky end up with a long term starter.
I'd probably go Jimmy G, Although I'd still like to see what Zach looks like, with some experienced coaching, a decent backup option is needed, in view of JG's injury history, & Zach being a question mark. Of course there's Taylor Heinicke, who's rarely mentioned, & has played well at times. And I think Tannehill is an unlikely get, at least according to his team mgnt... which could change. .
