I was suprised to see no one else has posted this. Did I just miss it? Anyways, thought I would spread the news for anyone who was still in the dark.
yuppp...as far as I'm concerned if we currently own a wild card spot we control our own destiny...we win our remaining games we're in...we go 3 - 1 we're most likely in....
The Jets do NOT control their own destiny right now. There are several scenarios where they win out and do not make the playoffs.
Frist thing is that there are about 2-3 threads about the playoffs and seeding. Second, we don't control our own destiny. Refer to one of the other threads for an explanation
One thing I don't understand - why aren't the Broncos ahead of the Jets due to conference standings? According to ESPN, the Broncos are 7-3 in the AFC.
Because any divisional teams go to divisional elimination first so they lose out to the Chiefs On games in division. Then it goes to wild card tiebreakers
Give me a god damn break. We control our own destiny. If we go 11-5 we're in the friggin' playoffs, period. I don't care how many possibilities there are.
Dude you actually think Jacksonville is going to beat New England, Tenn., KC and Indy in the next 4 weeks? This is the same team who got swept by Houston this year...
It's unlikely, but the point is it's out of the Jets' control. They do not control their own destiny.
AS I STATED IN ANOTHER THREAD, The Jets DO NOT control their own destiny, regardless of us sitting with the 6 seed now or not. Don't believe me? Controlling your own destiny means win the rest of your games and you're in, nothing else matters. Well I know of 1 scenario that is a lock for us to miss out even if we win out: If the Jets win out, and so do the Broncos and JAX, guess who is the odd team looking in? The Jets. Why? Broncos would be 9-3 in conference, Jets/Jags 8-4. Broncos get seed #5. Now 2 way tiebreaker with JAX... Jets are out based on our L to them..
No. H2H is >, but H2H is not used in a 3 way tie, unless each team has played each other team in the "tie". Since we'd be in a 5 way tie... The Broncos/KC tie is broken first, which right now KC holds. So we have a 4 way tie for 2 slots. Bengals go 5th, Jets 6th because of conference records. Right now, each team has played a different amount of conference games so it's hard to compare. If Jets/Jags are tied in a 2 way tie, Jags go.
Jets will have control of their destiny if Indy and San Diego wins or Den or Jax loses combined with Cincy and KC losses.
Hopefully we don't have to have this discussion next week. If the Jets beat Buffalo and one of these other teams loses, then we definitely will have control of our own destiny. Hell, I was really hoping NE would lose this week. They're not locked as AFC champs and it would've been nice to move up on them. These guys are not the team they once were. With the right circumstances, we could get ahead of them if we just keep winning.
Agreed that NE is not a lock for the AFCE yet. I think the chances of NE dropping two of any of their remaining games is about the same as the Jets winning out. If both happen, we get the division.
I'd freak out. Damn shame we lost that Browns game and the Bears game. Both of those felt like we could pull off the win. 9-3 would look real good to me right now.
Conference record is only first in a 3 way tie or greater. In a 2 way tie it's head to head and the second step of any 3 way tie is a 2 way tie.
SD will beat Denver next week and Jacksonville will lose to someone along the rest of the way. Jets don't control their own destiny, but good things will happen if they handle their own business.
I agree with you on that. The scary part will be when Jacksonville beats Indy next week. Then we'll all be looking at Indy/Cincy cross-eyed the week after.
