Niese getting hit fairly hard in the first inning, but thanks to poor baserunning gets through giving up no runs.
I missed the first inning but Niese looked pretty solid in the second. It would be nice if this kid steps up while Ollie's hurt/sucks.
Reyes singled, stole second, Castillo got an infield hit, stole second, and Delgado singled them in. With the score 2-1 and a man on second Niese got the the third out on a fly ball to CF except Beltran and Church let it drop, making it 2-2. Maybe Murphy is becoming better in LF, but now two soft hits and Niese is in trouble.
Mets got 2 runs off a Delgado hit, but gave it back when Beltran and Church couldn't decide who was going to catch the ball. I think Beltran lost it in the lights and Church thought that Beltran was calling him off so neither was ever within 10 feet of it when it landed. Again, we haven't been able to get anything going since the first inning. EDIT: Need a ground ball here.
Fucking Sean Green. I've got a bad feeling about this. EDIT: Solid start indeed by Niese, what should have only been 1 ER over 6. He's got some great stuff, he's just gotta be a bit more consistent.
Holy shit what a blast by Delgado! Good to see these guys get some hits with men on, and in scoring position no less.
Delgado passes Mickey Mantle on the career RBI list - not really a fair comparison, of course, but still impressive. Edit: I just took a look at their career stats, and it's a much fairer comparison than I would have thought. The Mick had a much better BA and OBP, but otherwise their statistics aren't that different. Of course, Mantle's numbers were more impressive for his time, but Delgado shouldn't be penalized for playing in the age of juicing - unless he's doing it too, of course.
