The 2013 draft may turn out to be one of the best Jets' drafts in the past decade (or more, depending on how Geno turns out). Based on this analysis, Richardson definitely deserves rookie of the year, though I don't think he'll get it.

This is how you build a perennial contender. Through. the. draft.

It was a good draft and I'm hoping for similar this season, now that Idzik has his own scouting staff in place.

In retrospect were really lucky that Tavon Austin wasn't available when the Jets took their second pick.

Because they wouldn't have taken Richardson (IMO).

My mistake. I thought the rams took him right before the Richardson pick, not right before Milliner. Either way, I think if Austin was there at 9 the Jets would have drafted Austin and then taken Milliner at 13 if he was there.

No way to know what might have happened. I think Austin would have really helped Geno out early and also would be awesome in MM's system. We really missed having a guy that could take a short pass to the house this year.

Might have helped the return game too.

I think Milliner is going to be good but obviously we need talent on offense more than defense.

Tavon or Richardson - which would you prefer?

I don't believe that's what the decision was.

Agreed, but you also need to give them extensive playing time. The bizarre situation that we have been in this year is that almost all the rookies have suited up due to lack of roster depth.

If we look back on the 2013 Draft as the best in recent times, don't under-estimate the advantage of the rookie class have had dealing with their growing pains immediately.

IMHO it's only rarely that 'benching' works. How many times before have we had value from Rounds 2-7? They usually become training camp fodder or are outright cut. Round ones picks usually work out as they are expected to play from day one.

In retrospect it was a great draft and although many of us felt uneasy about it at the time, our 3 top rookies Dee, Sheldon and Geno have all showed why they earned their draft sots. Regardless of how Geno turns out this looks to be a very a promising draft class. Richardson is no question the defensive rookie of the year and Milliner and Geno bounced bake the last quarter of the season.

Lookin like a good draft. Hopefully, Dee keeps up his level of play and Geno works out. This could end up being an incredible draft.

    Jets, Jets

Note how few of the draft picks made an immediate impact. When we obsess about it we should remember it takes time to be a player at this level.

Having 1 good player out of an entire draft is a "great" draft?

    Milliner - Terrible
    Richardson - Great
    Geno - Terrible
Winters - Terrible: got owned all year long.
    Aboushi - Who?
    Campbell - Who?
    Bohanon - a FB.

Pretty low expectations over here in Jets land.

Really? I'm not huge Geno fan, but "terrible"? Certainly not "Great" but he was quite good on his good days, even if he was pretty terrible on his bad days. Winters was at least average for his draft spot.
Milliner is an upgrade from Kyle Wilson, and has tons of upside, so if that's "terrible", I'll take it.

I've been a fan of Milliner even through his struggles. Check the Milliner thread from earlier in the season when Jets fans were grilling him and you'll see me posting about overreactions and that he will turn out fine.

That said, he was terrible for 3/4 of the season and who knows what he will be moving forward. I certainly agree he has "potential" and "upside" but for me you cannot call the draft class of 2013 "great" when you dont know which player he will be next year.

And Geno was indeed terrible. I'm not even going to waste my time arguing that.

Sheldon Richardson is going to end up being one of the best draft picks this franchise ever made.

Now you got me worried! Idzik has to figure out how to pay all these super stars Rex keeps finding in the draft.

Why can't we just have a normal draft like everyone else?

Ah, good ol' Bills fans. Off season is prime time for them cuz it's the only time they don't have a losing record! LOL at looking at late round picks expecting them to be awesome right out of the gate. Richardson isn't good, he's a top DT in the league as a rookie. Milliner has improved substantially. Winters has improved as well, he's had his ups and downs. Yeah I guess they are all just 'terrible', while your draft picks were all awesome!

So he was terrible during his injury that caused him to miss TC and the first 3 games? The first half of the season he was recovering from injury and adjusting to man coverage schemes, something he didn't play in college. Your definition of terrible is comical. The truth is you can't really grade a draft until 2-3 years after the fact. You don't normally have standout players like Richardson making an immediate impact, but this is a great sign, same with Geno & Milliner finishing the season strong. Drafting the highest rated player in the draft class generally means you had a good draft. Richardson was rated a solid 15 points higher than every other first round pick, even your boy, EJ who was -19, much lower than Milliner.
