Hey, I thought to myself, "wow, folks have really forgotten all about Chad, you never see him mentioned here anymore", so I thought I'd share this to jog memories about the guy (played QB, right?) From earlier today. Follow the link to listen for yourself.
Funny thing. On the NFL Network they had their start em sit em scrolling at the bottom of the screen and they listed Pennington as a start em and had the Jets logo next to his name. He will always be a Jet imo!
I like to keep an eye on Chad's performance in Miami. He's doing well down there. The Dolphins were lucky to get him. Good QB play has been one of the biggest reasons for the team's turnaround this season.
Yep, you pretty much nailed it on the head there. I'm hoping it's like the recent election: maybe everything has to go to ridiculous excess of foolishness before people collectively get the desire and will to move on to something new
I think Jet fans are mostly just loyal. When a guy has success here, especially at QB, people are going to remember him fondly and root for him to do well, at least as an individual if not his team. Look around this site, you see Ken O'Brien and Richard Todd usernames and avatars, they were here 20+ years ago and didn't have as much success as Chad did. It doesn't mean we aren't rooting for Favre or the current Jets, but that's just the way it works. People who have a problem with that are just going to have to deal with it.
I'd say this sums up my feeling as well. Not to mention that as long as Chad keeps winning and playing well people are going to keep talking about him. And that does not bother me. I figure he desearves that much after the beating he took on this site last year. And I include myself among the people that were critical of him last year.
Most fans memories of Chad don't include sunshine and lollipops. Even if they do, they blow up around the time he fucked up his cuff. But maybe thats just our way of saying "thanks." It is pretty true that I remember Chad more fondly and more respectfully than your average Jet QB, but he's still a dream stealing bastard.
It's very recent, too. Look at Todd and O'Brien and the love they get here 20 years after the fact. If you lived through those years, they gave us less than Chad. Todd gave us one good run one time with an awesome defense, threw away a home playoff game in the end zone as we were about to win, threw 5 picks in the AFC championship game. O'Brien froze up with the weather every year and he had Toon, Walker and Shuler to throw to with McNeil and Hector behind him. He never won a playoff game. These guys get a lot more respect here than Chad, because Chad is still playing.
Glad to see him doing well..... really wish it was as a jet......just doesn't sit right seeing him in a fins uni.....almost nauseating......I really hate the fins
i root for pennington every week...unless the dolphins winning directly hurts the jets which so far it hasn't...if anything its helped...i said before the season pennington would do very well in miami... he has a good running game down there which allows him to work off the play action pass and it weather is warm with minimal wind keeping his shoulder lose and injury free...penningtons success in miami does not come as a shock to me... and even though hes a dolphin i couldn't be happier for the guy...hes a serious class act
I'm surprised because I didn't think the Dolphins would be this good, I figured he'd be running for his life like he was here last year. I'd rather he went almost anywhere else, having him in our division is another reason he's still a hot topic here.
agreed...and it makes the season finale all the more interesting... pennington is a perfect fit down there...for where that franchise is at its perfect...hes a good QB but not a great one that won't bring too much attention to the team...hes an under the radar QB and something tells me parcells wanted the dolphins under the radar at all costs....
A young team benefits from a smart, composed leader at QB. That's how we won 10 games and made the playoffs in 2006 with rookies on the OL and no running game.
I don't see how any big NFL fan with how intense and strongly they feel about their team manages to distance themselves emotionally from every player that's on that team. I mean these guys have a pretty big effect on how your mood is every week. The 16 years I shared watching Brett play in Green Bay were something I'd consider special. I've never felt an attachment like that with anyone on T.V. and didn't really think I could. I wouldn't be able to just sweep that under a rug and pretend like that never meant anything to me, just because he's wearing a different uniform.
Chad's handled this whole thing with class. It's too bad he didn't have a chance to play with the "revamped" Jets, but I'm still MUCH happier with Favre.
