Ugh. Just ugh. Weren't we one of the least penalized teams in the NFL a few years ago? What the hell happened? Illegal shifts? Is this a result of Mangini's kinder, gentler training camps?
This is the FAs not being 100% on everything yet. Growing pains with veterans. This better be fixed by week 6.
By then every nuance should be done and every growing pain removed. No more dumb penalties, a good run D, Favre getting everything down, etc. It'll take time. But progress should be made with each week played.
Week 6 my ass. It better be fixed by week 1. Last year we were - I think we were the 2nd least penalized team in the league.
Next practice is going to suck for the players. Expect a long one. Mental errors are totally unacceptable.
Far too many "Illegal formations." The false starts are also unforgivable. This was a HOME GAME!!! What is going to happen when we get to San Diego and the lineman cannot hear what the QB is saying? I'm just thankful that this happened during the preseason so it can be fixed. Wait a second, correct that, It BETTER be fixed!!!
One of the sloppiest games ive ever attended. It was painful to watch. The Jets need to fix the issues that happened tonight.
That was awful, I'm confident they can correct those mistakes before the openr but I have never seen anything like what we saw last night w/ the illegal formation penalties. Those are basics, they should have that down by now but I'm sure it will be taken care of in practice.
It's what happens, as already pointed out, when you attempt to assimilate a whole bunch of new starters into the lineup. They are still learning the system and getting used to each other. It will get better but it probably will linger to some degree for most of the season. Hopefully it will never be as costly as it was tonight when the games start counting.
Pre-Season didn't matter we weren't pushed around at the point of attack and we were able to throw the ball well. Everyone harps on penalties but at this point with a new QB and new players with a little less focus than a regular season game it's not worth worrying about.
plus the nfl issued a statement that offensive alignments will be a tightly monitored and flagged this season. they chose the jets game to put teeth into their edict because the jets use numerous shifts and formations. OT: most pre-snap shifts are used to force movement on the defensive side of the ball giving the qb insight into what defensive scheme he will be facing on that play.
^ just that since we use a lot of shifts, we are more suseptable to those penalties than most teams, so its 'good' to get slapped now vs week one.
The one called to negate the TD was merely not having enough men on the line of scrimmage. I don't know if Franks false started and covered it up well with a motion move, or if that was a play design for extra blitz blockers and one of the WR's forgot to motion forward. Either way, as Favre said himself, they were all rather silly penalties that should not be happening, and WILL BE FIXED before Week 1 roles around. Obviously, he was not very happy about it. It took away one TD, and then another took away a another pretty good looking drive after favre got one semi deep down the sidelines while being hit. That is one thing that Favre always hated - stupid penalties taking away scores and/or possessions. It's one thing for a holding call, it's another to not have enough guys on the line of scrimmage to cause an illegal formation. Just silly.
