Besides getting Lloyd... Today they've signed Daniel Fells, Donte Stallworth, and Robert Gallery. In talks with Luis Castillo who visited recently.
Gallery is a nice signing, he's a good guard taking a 1 year make good contract off an injury plagued year.
Aside from Brandon the Pats signings all seem fairly ho-hum from the outside (none of them are bad signing but none really get you excited), what I dont really understand is that the Pats have probably 3 years left of Brady (give or take) so its surprising that they dont seem to be going more "all out" to try to make the most of the remainder of his career as they must surely expect a major tail off when he goes. They have 2 first round picks, why not burn one and get Mike Wallace?
just wait until the season start to gear up and Stallworth will be talked about like it was 6 years ago.
Not happy they got Gallery. Otherwise the rest of them aren't impact players. Unless by 'impact' you mean 'deadly' and by 'signed with the Patriots' you mean 'drove drunk'. Too soon?
You have to love how the Pats operate, Stallworth and Gallery, no risk low cash signings that will be cut in TC if they're not up to speed. Surprised Ocho Stinko made it through the whole season but I like these moves.
Some small differences are that Stallworth was already in McDaniels system before and he is most likely only being brought in to compete for a spot during TC. If he still has his speed he could be of use. He is signed to a 1 yr deal that is probably the vet min. The Ochocinco signing was (based on the contract) supposed to make him a viable #2 and he just never understood the system well enough to do so. Lloyd, who was brought in to be the #2 this year, has had great success in McDaniels offense putting up 2400 yards and 16 TDs with him in 2 seasons catching passes from the likes of Kyle Orton, Tim Tebow, and Sam Bradford. Lloyd is also only make an average of 3m/yr. These signings are a bit different from last season, and they are all free agents, none cost us draft picks (even if they were lower round) like Ocho or AH did.
there is no doubt there are differences. the point is the media will talk it up and will have no credibility when they do so because they will still be coming from the exact same place -- those players will be great because they are on the Patriots.
Why give up a 1st rounder and 9+ mil per year for Wallace when the got Lloyd for no draft picks and 4 mil per year. They also added a great blocking TE and a couple of other decent receivers. I think they're doing a great job of putting talent around Brady! It's the defensive side of the ball I'm much more concerned about.
