Today was as "Same Old Jets" as it gets. A game that was in the win column before kickoff....and an utterly hapless performance on both sides of the ball (and special teams....counting the missed kick).

I have been solidly in the Chad camp, but today that changes. With no vertical threat, even the most inept defense can crowd the line, and defend the short pass and stop the run. Pennington is smart, tough and likable, but he is not getting it done and is not the future of this team. It will be tough to bench the offensive captain of the team, but we are heading for 6-9 unless a change is made soon.

The o-line is a mess too. I thought we saw some progress last week, but now I am convinced it was just a product of a horrifically bad Dolphins team. TJ is good, but he is not going anywhere without holes. And without time Pennington is an even more limited QB than he was with protection.

Beyond that, where is Brad Smith? How come it took 'til the 4th quarter to see Leon? Why aren't there ANY shots downfield?

The defense just plain sucks. I don't know if it is scheme, but I think it is bigger than that. I just don't think these guys are very good. I like what I see here and there, but as a hole, it is awful. When you can't rattle a rookie QB, you know you have a major problem. I know people think switching to a 4-3 will automatically turn the light on and we will have a good D, but I doubt it. We seem a half-step behind on every play.

I blame the coaching. I blame the front office. I blame the players. Every single one of them are accountable for the disgusting display we have see today (and for the most part all season)!

Mark it on your calendar: Sunday, September 30, 2007.....DbJ turns back to the Dark Side.

Welcome back DBJ. I saw what you saw today as well. I'm just waiting for the end of the Pennington era. I just can't stomach another floatie pass getting picked or one of our Wr's getting smoked waiting for yet another Chad ball to finally come down.

I'm done man. Screw this DDP BS. If all the Jets much ballyhoo'd braintrust can come up with week after freakin week is 5 yd dumps, 10 yd bombs and the occasional Brad Smith trick play that tricks no one anymore, this is gonna be one long season..

Gret post and pretty damn accurate
    Allow me to add:
Our Defense is lacking tackling skills, constantly reaching and grabbing no "Hitting and Wrapping up"

It seems to me this is the same "read & react" concept that Cotrell tried to implement a few years ago.

We need to use our players skills and not rely so much on scheme.

This is the first time I've said this. The Chad era is over. I've seen enough. He's tough and smart and just not good enough. Every team s doing the same thing to us defensively. They just use the Pats game plan. They dare him to throw outside the numbers(where both of today's 4th quarter ints. were).

Time to start the first overall pick in the 2008 lottery pool. We have a shot. Oh wait, we don't want that..we'll take a f***ing offensive lineman with it.

  8. Sorry buddy...but linemen are what this team needs to get better. We need Clemens to continue to develop...a more imginative DC and more size on both lines...

If you think we're gonna take a flasy WR or RB..you're gonna be very dissapointed.

I couldn't agree more, start the Clemens era now to salvage SOMETHING out of this season.

have you been watching the team? we need more O lineman....and more D lineman. i would have been thrilled with blaylock or grubbs with our first rounder this year. im not gonna complain about revis, but we wouldnt have gone wrong with another OL in the first.

Oh do they? Tell me what our top two picks in 06 have done to make our line better? What you should have said is GOOD linemen CAN make a line better. Good QBs, RBs and Receivers make any team better. Orlando Pace comes around once in a generation.

Clemens will start next week, and it will be interesting to see what affect he has on the both sides of the ball. Will the defense be more aggresive knowing that Clemens can comeback with a quick score?

  15. The pass protection the last 9 quarters(I'm including the 4th qtr of the Ravens) has been very very good, despite starting fringe journeymen at LG, RG And RT. Wha's keeping our OL from being a COMPLETE disaster?? Brick developing into an outstanding pass protector...and mangold being the best young center in football.

What good is Thomas Jones w/o some run blocking? What good are Coles and cotchery w/o time to throw downfield??

You guys are just too much. I have been doing this shit now for 37 years. It does not get any better than this. Where else can you spend any spare money you have on Jets apparel, flags, chairs, you name it, wait with as much anticipation as a first born to see who we get with our first draft pick, who comes in the FA period, wait all Sunday morning for the game to start, and be able to turn the game off by halftime knowing that it was going to be a loss or worse yet, a nailbiter at the end where some valuable home furnishing would get broken.

It was those tough years like 1998 and 2002 where I did not get any yardwork done. This year, sweeping, pruning, driveway sealing, pressure washing, will all get done and I will not have missed a thing.

Hopefully we see a vertical passing game with our "backup" QB sometime soon (like next week) to give us some hope for the future and the NFL gods grace us with multiple 1st rounders to add some horsepower and next year the house can wait.

Pass protection for 5 yard passes is no great feat at all. We had that before those two and we also had people who could open holes for our RBs which has all but disappeared. Where is the improvement? 35 yards rushing from our new "stud" RB? It's an absolute joke and that's against one of the worst teams in football.

Couldn't have said it better - my thoughts on this game, absolutely pathetic.

Our defense looks lost out there and it goes beyond the 3-4/4-3 scheme, they play without any aggressiveness or instincts. It looks very like the sad sack Cottrell defense.

I love what Chad has given for the team, but it's time to move on, we're not going to win with this conservative offense. Let Kellen play and let Chad mentor him just like Testaverde did for Chad. Seeing Coles and Cotch make 6-7 yard catches every time is getting old.

What an absolutely pathetic effort today.

  19. We had that before???

Did you see the entire 05 season when we went through 4 starting QB's in about 10 weeks time??

We had alot of the same skill players than...not includling a HOF RB...and look what happend due to the lack of OL..

Do you want a return to that?? There are plenty of teams who'd take Brick and Mangold off our hands..
