And the Jets are getting their clocks cleaned...Welker was a guy I thought the Jets might look at. But they're not looking at anybody. Is Tannenbaum on vacation? From ESPN website: "....Surrendering a second-round choice for a player of Welker's abilities would be viewed in most quarters, but especially in New England, as a steal. Welker would dramatically upgrade the New England wide receiver corps and the Pats would also benefit by taking him away from a division opponent. Plus, the Patriots own a pair of first-round choices in the 2007 draft, and can afford to part with a second-round selection for a player of Welker's skills. Welker, 25, is a terrific, if unheralded playmaker who has earned a spot on the ESPN.com "all unsung" team each of the past two seasons. Used principally as a return specialist in his first two seasons in the league, Welker emerged as a viable receiving threat in 2006, with 67 catches for 687 yards and a touchdown.
NFL.com's Adam Schefter reports the Patriots' offer sheet to restricted free agent Wes Welker will be for seven years and $38.5 million. There isnt anyway in hell this guy is worth that much,
Welker is a TINY, but talented, second or third receiver. He is NOT worth that much money, and certainly not that much money AND a second round pick.
Hmm... praising the Pats for giving up a 2nd round pick for a #3 WR. I believe we did that a few years ago... and the guy we got has been a disappointment who may very well be cut or traded this off-season. Tannenbaum should be applauded for not doing what the Patriots just did for Welker.
no just worried about them cleaning up. they fill their holes real quickly. we create holes as were trying to fill others. ex. the trade rumor trading vilma or coles for a rb.
This suprises me a little. A second round for this guy, and Marony is already a very good KR. NE needs WR's but Welker for a second?
I watch Derrick Gaffney's boy do diddly squat in Houston and Philadelphia and then suddenly turn into his father when he got with Brady. Ditto for Reche "Bugeye" Caldwell. Look, if the Pats signed you to an offer sheet, 2004, I'd be worried as well. Guys don't need to be great to be great in that system. Welker is a much better receiver than people realize and you're words will come back to haunt you.
The Jets came close to the Patriots level in 2006, even beat them once. But the Jets lost to the Patriots by 21 points in the playoffs and now that team is getting much better.
Sounds to me like we just need to improve our secondary and we should be fine. In all seriousness I find it funny that if the Patsies do end up w/ Welker he will be their best WR.
I highly doubt maroney will continue to be the kick returner. With dillon's departure Maroney will see the bulk of the carries and will not be able to handle the starting running back role and the kick returning role. That being said, NO return specialist outside of justin miller and devin hester are worth a second round pick and NO return specialist in the history of the game is worth the amount of money he's getting. Cmon patriots sign him!
I agree. WR is the least problem we even have right now. We're pretty much set as it is. Draft a WR in the 3rd or 4th round.
It means they're quite better than welker. The jets receiver corps brushes dirt off their shoulders onto the pats Wideout corps.
