"Jets Nation" so to speak I'd like to know the breakdown of where Jets fans live in the northeast as well as other areas around the countries. At one point I know it was very Long Island dominated with a smaller base in NJ and upstate NY, and even smaller trickles of fans in Connecticut. How have the demographics changed? Obviously I know that we have a huge fan base in Florida...but is it still true that Jets fans are mostly concentrated on LI? Because it seems to me like there is a more westward trend (much like what happened with Giants fans) places like Northern and Western Jersey (Sussex, Morris, Bergen) and some of the lower upstate places like Putnam and Rockland seem to now contain many Jets fans. I don't have any hard evidence, basing this mostly on the amount of bumper stickers, flags, jets fans at local taverns...and my own family of Jets fans who have completely left NY for Jersey (and places like Rockland...while technically NY, is just an extension of the jersey suburb lifestyle) The reason I ask this is because of the name and identity of the team. We've played in NJ for 20+ years, sure we practice in NY, but once the fan base shifts to NJ, and the new Giants/Jets stadium will be in NJ (as will our practice facility) will we continue to carry the name of NEW YORK Jets? Because at that point it's going to be pretty absurd. I see the identity of the team as "Jersey" already, even if I still pine for Shea...
Not an attack, but ever heard of the "Metro Area" or "New York Metropolitian Area". Do you know what area that covers? Jersey that I know of is mostly Giant fans, as is most everywhere else in the Metro Area. Why? They've been here the longest. South West and South South Jersey has a mix of NY teams and Philly. Shea is an awful awful stadium (baseball, football or otherwise).
I live in New Jersey and changing the name of the "New York Jets" to the "New Jersey Jets" or some other name would be one of the greatest branding errors of the modern day world.
once they leave hofstra (2008) they are not a new york team for my 300th post i just want to say GO JETS oh and i am from long island
Born in Syracuse, live in Rochester. Calling them the Jersey Jets, no matter how accurate that may be, would severely damage their ability to gain new fans in the NY area. NJ is a small and limited market.
BING, BING... Daily double! Alex: "Okay, Jersey Shore for $400... This NFL team has it's largest NJ fan base south and west of Toms River."
I live in Hoboken nj and have gone to the bar for the first 2 games. Unfortunately, my buddy ad I were the only people in the bar wearing Jets jerseys and actually paying attention to the game. I find that to be disturbing when all I see is Giants fans and maybe 3 or 4 other Jets fans in th whole town
i used to live in northern jersey, now i am in northern VA listening to skins fans complain about brunell
I'm in Brooklyn, born and being raised. I don't really know how it is here. I know a lot of Jets fans, but I know a lot of Giants fans too. I really wish the Jets actually played in NY.
Minneapolis, MN via Sussex County, NJ Jet fan here. I gotta go to a Bills bar loaded with drunk Buffalo fans to see the game with volume this weekend. I've met a couple of fans out here but they moved out of this town eventually.
Moved to central Florida 'bout 8 years ago from Union County New Jersey. If you visit sports bars here there is an eclectic fan base. ( I guess Florida is being inundated by folks from other parts of the country .... we're out-pacing the original southerners) I've met about a dozen or so fellow JETS fans here and there a bond creates itself. My new wife s from California and is a huge football fam (Raiders as a choice) but I am brainwashing her. She ordered both of us matching custome JETS Jerseys.
