That would be my opinion too! Like CHRIS BAKER I thought he would have benefited us more by getting more passes thrown his way.
The only thing I really remember about Fred Baxter was all of his dropped passes in the end zone. He really had ten butterfingers. He could catch in between the lines but not in the end zone.....
So where's the poll? I do have to say unfavorable because he dropped sure passes in the endzone more than once... He set the stage for Anthony Becht...
I don't remember him too well. What I do remember is him dropping a few passes. I guess was an OK player, but Chris Baker is much better from what I remember.
The play I remember most was at Washington on a Saturday afternoon in Dec 1993 where we wound up winning 3-0 but Fred dropped a sure TD that would have made it a 10-0 final. Bob Costas and mike Ditka called the game, it was a bizarre game.
The final score was 3-0 but i remember us having a very good drive to end the game...and if not for trying to run out the block..we wouldve pounded it in w/ ease to make it 10-0.
Nyjunc, I knew you'd pick up on that game. 'Bizarre game' is being kind. The Jets dominated statistically, especially with the time of possession and Johnny Johnson ran for over 150 yards but the Jets could only put up a field goal. The Jets had several long drives, including one in the first half that lasted ten minutes but ended on fourth down when Coslet decided to go for it on fourth and goal, called the perfect play and yeah, Fred Baxter dropped a sure TD, right in his chest. This was also the game when the Jets attempted a short FG and the snap from center hit the holder, Louie Aguilar right in the face mask. This was the last win for the Jets in 1993 and also their second road shut out in a row (only time that was done in Jets history). Getting back to Baxter, I also remember him dropping a TD against the Colts in 1998 costing us dearly in a one point loss and I vaguely remember him dropping a TD pass against NE in the '99 season opener but I'm not sure if he was still with the team in '99.....
was that 3-0 game in the rain, for some reason i can only picture it raining on that day. fred baxter was a decent te, nothing special. blocked pretty well and had functional receiving skills. no superstar by any means but did play the position to an average level. brad baxter was definitely the better baxter.
I do remember that TD drop costing us but in the long run that 1 game didn't cost us playoff positioning. he was on the team in '99(he left after the '00 season) but that season is a blur for me, SB dreams up in smoke quickly.
Great basketball player. Used to play pickup games at Hofstra. He played in college I think. Baseball also. Average football player.
